Superfood Snacks with Spirulina
Why spirulina? There are so many other amazing green superfoods to choose from, so why spirulina? Truthfully even broccoli could be classified as a nice green superfood. Although I don’t think many people would flock to a recipe entitled “Broccoli Energy Balls.”
Spirulina energy balls are going to have some unique attributes that set it apart in taste and health benefits.
Health Benefits of Spirulina
Spirulina is a very colorful algae that is grown and harvested in water. Then it is dried and put in a capsule or power. This specific recipe is going to use a spirulina and moringa blend in a powdered form.
One of the unique benefits of spirulina is it’s concentration of protein and iron. It is one of the most nutrient dense health foods on the planet and is rich with vitamins A , B1, B2, B3, E, K, copper, iron, magnesium, calcium, manganese, potassium, and many other smaller amounts of nutrients. There is scientific evidence that spirulina has a lot of health benefits that can aid in immune system boosting, decrease inflammation, and perhaps even fight cancer.
Health Benefits of Moringa
Moringa is another powerhouse of nutrition whose praises needs to be sung more frequently! Many call this superfood ‘king of the greens’ and rightly so! It is known for it’s ability to fight anemia and fatigue through it’s high concentration of iron and vitamin A. It is also good for skin care and your immune system.
Making Spirulina Energy Balls
Trim Healthy Mama recently released their superfood greens powder and it takes spirulina and moringa and puts it into a powerful blend called Dynamic Duo. Don’t miss using this stuff, it is a perfect blend!
The process for most energy balls is simple, and this spirulina energy ball recipe is no different. You will want to have a powerful blender or food processer to get all the ingredients thoroughly blended together. I personally use the Ninja Food Processor, which I find completely adequate for most of my Trim Healthy Mama kitchen needs.
After you blend all the ingredients together, wet your hands and start rolling the dough into small balls. You should have enough for about 12 balls. The dough is rather sticky, so keeping your hands wet will help roll them smooth.
