This recipe is sweet and tangy and will taste delightful with a cup of coffee on an autumn day. It can be an excellent way to use up your sourdough discard.
Autumn is a favorite time around our homestead. One of my personal favorite traditions is packing up the car the week before school starts and heading over to one of our local apple orchards.
Our apple orchards are filled with activities for kids in addition to beautiful apple picking. A couple of weeks ago I took all three boys, including the newborn, off on an apple orchard adventure, and in a true postpartum flare, I went to the wrong one! Thankfully, there are an abundance of apple orchards in our area and the drive to a new one was a mere 14 minutes.
We completed our apple orchard adventure by me begging the boys to sit under some apple trees and let me take their pictures. Thankfully, my little men obliged their emotional mother.
Most likely though you are not here to listen to my motherhood ranks on how adorable my boys are! Instead, you are here for the most simple, easy, and tasty sourdough apple bread.
The apples we picked up on our apple orchard excursion inspired this recipe. Make sure you rate the recipe if you try it and follow me over on IG for announcements on when I launch new sourdough recipes.
Easy Sourdough Apple Bread
What makes this recipe easy? For the most part, it is a dump-and-go kind of recipe. There is little prep work that needs to take place, no stretch and fold, no kneading, and no extra fancy ingredients. Can I hear a hallelujah?!
What Kind of Apples are Good for Bread?
Although any apple will work for bread there are a few that are better than others. In the case of this bread, I used Zestar apples which are crispy and tart. What makes the Zestar apple good in baked goods is that it holds its shape and texture, which not all apples do.
Other apples that are crispy, sweet, and with an ability to hold their texture, include:
There is really no right or wrong apple to experiment with, but do take note that there are some apples that will turn soggy in baked goods.

Cream together eggs, Gentle Sweet, the Swerve Sugar, and unsweetened almond milk.
Add to the sourdough started.

Pour batter into two lightly greased bread pans.
Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when put in the center of the loaf.
Sourdough on THM
When you are making sourdough creations while following the THM plan, there are a few guidelines to follow. The most important one is that the fermenting time must be 7 hours at room temperature from the time you mix the dough until it is baked.
When using sourdough discard, make sure that the sourdough starter did a full ferment (at least 7 hours, but ideally 12-24) before you discarded the dough.
You can learn more about Trim Healthy Mama and the use of grains through this official THM article.
