There are some books that feel like more than just pages and pictures—they feel like tools in your hands as a mother. Big Thoughts for Tiny Tots by Jared Kennedy, illustrated by Trish Mahoney, is one of those books.
This book was sent to me by New Growth Press. In full transparency, I’ve never disliked a book that they have sent to me! Each one is so beautiful and theologically rich. All of their books are used in our home and loved by my five boys and me.
I’m always looking for simple, faithful ways to speak truth into my children’s hearts—especially in those early, wiggly, distracted years. And this book meets you right there, in the middle of real life, with something both gentle and deeply meaningful.

The book is written with toddlers and preschoolers in mind. AS always with these types of books, I’ve found that even slightly older children can still benefit from the simple, truth-filled questions and answers.

Our Favorite Part –
My favorite part of Big Thoughts for Tiny Tots is how it takes such big, important truths about God and makes them feel so gentle and approachable for little ones. It doesn’t feel overwhelming—it feels like planting tiny seeds of truth that, Lord willing, will grow over time.
Big Thoughts for Tiny Tots
At its core, this book is exactly what the title promises—big, eternal truths made beautifully simple for little hearts.
It walks through foundational gospel concepts using a question-and-answer format that feels natural for toddlers. Because let’s be honest—our little ones are always asking questions. This book leans into that curiosity instead of fighting it.
Each page introduces a simple truth about God, paired with a short, clear answer and a Bible verse to root it in Scripture. That repetition and simplicity is intentional—it helps those truths stick over time.
What I love most is how approachable it feels. There’s no pressure to “teach a lesson.” It feels more like having a conversation with your child about who God is.

More about the Author – Jared Kennedy
Jared Kennedy clearly understands both theology and children, which is such a rare and needed combination.
He has a background in children’s ministry and family discipleship, and it shows. Fun fact, the day before I found his podcast through a homeschool podcast I was listening to. I didn’t recognize his name and put two and two together until I started writing this review.
He writes in a way that respects both the depth of the gospel and the limitations of little minds. You can tell this book was written by someone who has actually sat on the floor with kids, answered their questions, and tried to make big truths make sense in small moments.
More about the Illustrator – Trish Mahoney
The illustrations by Trish Mahoney are warm, inviting, and engaging in all the right ways.
They aren’t overly busy or distracting, but they hold a child’s attention—which, if you’re reading to toddlers, you know is everything. Bright, cheerful visuals help reinforce what’s being taught and keep little eyes focused long enough for truth to sink in.
It’s the kind of art that makes kids want to come back to the book again and again.
She runs the Mahoney Studio with her husband and truly makes beautiful works of art.
The Layout
This might be one of my favorite parts as a mom.
The layout is simple:
- One question
- One short answer
- One Scripture
That’s it.
No overwhelm. No fluff. Just truth, clearly presented.
And honestly, that simplicity makes it incredibly practical for everyday life. You can read one page at breakfast, during morning time, or even at bedtime when everyone is tired, and attention spans are low.

Recommended Ages
This book is geared toward toddlers and preschoolers—roughly ages 2–5.
And I would say that feels exactly right.
It meets little ones where they are:
- Short attention spans
- Love for repetition
- Natural curiosity
But I’ll also say this—older siblings listening in will still benefit. Truth is truth, and sometimes hearing it simply is exactly what we all need.

Where to Buy
You can find Big Thoughts for Tiny Tots through several Christian book retailers and major bookstores.
It’s published by New Growth Press and is widely available online, typically priced around $16–$17 for a hardcover copy.
Final Mom Thoughts
If I had to sum it up simply, this is the kind of book that helps you be faithful in the small moments.
It’s not flashy. It’s not complicated.
But it’s steady.
And as a mom, that’s exactly what I want when it comes to disciplining my children.
This is a book you’ll reach for:
- on ordinary mornings
- during quiet moments
- in between the chaos
And over time, those little questions and answers will start to take root.
Because the goal isn’t just getting through the book—it’s planting truth that, Lord willing, will grow for a lifetime.
And this one does that beautifully
