One of my biggest goals as a Christian mom isn’t simply teaching my children Bible stories—it’s helping them develop a lifelong habit of opening God’s Word for themselves.
There are countless Bible studies for kids available today, but after completing a couple from Not Consumed Ministries, I found one feature that completely sets these studies apart.
They don’t print the Bible passages inside the workbook.
At first, that might sound inconvenient. It actually annoyed me at first! But in reality, I think it’s one of the greatest strengths of the entire curriculum. Instead of reading Scripture from a workbook, children (and parents!) are encouraged to grab their own Bible, look up the passage, and spend time in God’s Word first.
That simple design choice changes everything.

What Is Not Consumed Ministries?
Not Consumed Ministries was founded by Kimberly Sorgius Jones with a simple mission: helping families grow in faith by getting children into the Word of God for themselves.
Instead of creating complicated curriculum that requires hours of preparation, Not Consumed develops open-and-go resources that fit into everyday family life. Their Bible studies, homeschool curriculum, and games are all designed to help children understand Scripture, develop a biblical worldview, and discover God’s plan for their lives through consistent time in His Word.
Why I Think Not Consumed Bible Studies Are Different
One thing I especially appreciate is that the lessons are intentionally written for real families. Whether you’re homeschooling during the school year, looking for a family Bible study, or simply trying to establish the importance of a consistent quiet time, the materials are practical without sacrificing biblical depth.
This is the feature that completely won me over.
The workbook doesn’t print the Bible passage. Instead, it gives you the Scripture reference. That means every lesson begins by opening your Bible.
At first, I wondered why they designed it that way. Actually, I was quite annoyed with it, but remember what I said at the beginning about how I think some kids trust the curriculum more than a Bible? Before we started doing Not Consumed Bible studies consistently, I don’t remember opening the Bible with our curriculum. All of our curriculum is faith-based, but all of it prints the Bible passages in their curriculum. It’s the easy way out. I don’t have to bring another book to the table while we are doing lessons, and who doesn’t like ‘easier’, but I’m more and more convinced now that having an actual Bible open is essential. Now I honestly wish more kids’ Bible studies followed the same model.
Rather than teaching children to rely on a workbook, they’re building habits that will serve them for the rest of their Christian life. They learn where books of the Bible are, how to navigate Scripture, and how to spend time reading God’s Word for themselves. Those simple habits become the next step toward developing an independent faith that doesn’t rely on Mom or Dad always reading everything for them.
How Our Family Uses Not Consumed Bible Studies
Not Consumed is designed so every member of the family works through the same lesson during their own personal Bible time. Each person has an age-appropriate workbook—including a Parent Guide—so everyone studies the same Scripture passage at their own level before coming together for family discussion.
I absolutely love that design. The studies are broken down into:
- Primary (ages 4-7)
- Junior (ages 8-12)
- Youth (ages 13+)
- Parent Guide
Right now, though, I don’t have many strong readers yet.
Instead of everyone completing lessons independently, we’ve adapted the studies into more of a family unit study. We read through the Primary lesson together, look up the Bible passages, discuss the questions, memorize memory verses, and talk through the practical applications as a family.
Some of our best conversations have come from these discussions. The lessons gently uncover the state of their heart, encourage children to think through the enemies of their heart, and point all of us back to God’s truth instead of simply changing outward behavior.
An Overview of Not Consumed Bible Studies
One thing I’ve come to appreciate after completing multiple Not Consumed Bible studies is that they follow a consistent format, making it easy to build a rhythm of family Bible time.
Each study is divided into short daily lessons that are designed to get children into God’s Word first. Rather than simply reading a devotional, children look up the assigned Scripture passages in their own Bible, answer thoughtful questions, memorize memory verses, and work through activities that encourage them to apply biblical truth to everyday life.
One practical detail my boys have really enjoyed is that each study comes with little extras like bookmarks and stickers. It might seem like a small thing, but those stickers have been surprisingly motivating! Many of the studies also include Challenge Cards, which encourage kids to put what they’re learning into practice throughout the week. I love that the learning doesn’t stop when the workbook closes. Children are challenged to live out God’s Word in tangible ways at home, with siblings, and in everyday situations.
Each Bible study that we have done so far is 20 lessons long, which means that there are about 4 weeks of lessons and 4 different challenge cards.
The lessons also go beyond simply teaching Bible facts. They gently help children examine the state of their heart in ways that make sense to children. Throughout the studies, Scripture remains the focus, with thoughtful questions that lead to meaningful family conversations instead of simply filling in blanks.
What I appreciate most is that the studies are practical without feeling watered down. They don’t just teach children what the Bible says—they help them think about how to faithfully live it out. As a parent, that’s exactly what I’m looking for in a Bible study.
Does Not Consumed Offer More Than Bible Studies?
Absolutely.
Although they’re best known for their Bible studies, Not Consumed offers resources in three primary categories.
Homeschool Curriculum
Not Consumed has a growing homeschool curriculum that combines biblical truth with engaging academics. While I haven’t personally used their curriculum yet, I’ve had my eye on it for a future school year because I appreciate how they connect learning back to God’s design rather than treating faith as a separate subject.
Because we’ve struggled with finding something that works for Language Arts for our kids, I’ve had my eye on both their Beginnings and Connections reading program.
Bible Studies
Since we’ve already talked about the individual Bible studies, I wanted to mention something else that really stood out to me: the Bible Study Bundles.
If you know you’re going to be using Not Consumed studies for a while, the bundles are a great way to save a little money. But honestly, I think the bigger benefit is how thoughtfully they’re organized.
Instead of wondering, “Which study should we do next?” Not Consumed has already done the planning for you.
They currently offer seven different Bible Study Bundles, and each bundle includes five studies centered around a particular theme.
For example, the Relationships Series includes Obey and My Brother’s Keeper—the two studies we’ve already completed—as well as studies on making peace, serving others, and friendship. Rather than jumping from random topic to random topic, each study naturally builds on the one before it.
As a homeschool mom, I love that approach. Having a roadmap already laid out takes away a lot of that decision fatigue. If your family enjoys one study, you don’t have to spend hours researching your next purchase because the next step is already waiting for you.
We’re not working through a bundle in order (I purchased our studies individually before I even knew the bundles existed!), but if I were starting over today, I would absolutely consider buying one of the series bundles instead. It just seems like such a simple, mom-friendly way to keep your family growing in God’s Word together without constantly wondering what to study next.
Games & Resources
One thing that Not Consumed is really good at is advertising their family games. Either that, or my social media algorithm has decided our family needs to play more games together!
Earlier this summer, I picked up their Books of the Bible Game because I thought it would be a fun way to reinforce what we’re learning during Bible time. We’ve had fun trying to play it, but I’ve also realized my boys just aren’t quite at the right stage for it yet.
The recommended age is 5 and up, but for my 8- and 6-year-olds, the gameplay still requires quite a bit of help from Mom. Once we get going, they enjoy it, but they’re not yet able to manage the game independently. So for now, I’ve tucked it away to pull out again in another year or two.
That said, I haven’t written off their games at all. If anything, trying one has made me even more curious about the rest of their collection. I love the idea of using games to help kids become familiar with the books of the Bible and other biblical concepts, and I can definitely see these becoming a regular part of our family game nights as my boys get a little older.
What Denomination Is Not Consumed?
One question I often see people searching is, “What denomination is Not Consumed?”
Not Consumed isn’t built around promoting a particular denomination. Instead, their resources are rooted in historic evangelical Christianity and a high view of Scripture. They believe the Bible is the absolute authority for matters of faith and daily living, fully inspired by God and completely trustworthy. Their statement of faith affirms foundational Christian doctrines including creation by the direct act of God, salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, Christ’s virgin birth, bodily resurrection, His future premillennial return, and His millennial reign.
I also appreciate that they encourage parents to read their full statement of faith before purchasing. As Christian parents, it’s important that we know exactly what we’re placing before our children and that every resource points them back to biblical truth rather than simply offering inspirational ideas.
Not Consumed Bible Study Reviews – Is It Worth It?
After completing multiple Not Consumed Bible studies and browsing many others, my answer is an easy yes.
What I appreciate most isn’t flashy graphics or endless activities.
It’s that every lesson consistently points children back to the Word of God. Rather than replacing Scripture, these studies encourage children to open their own Bibles, develop lifelong habits, and discover the life-changing truth found in God’s Word.
In my opinion, that’s one of the greatest gifts we can give our children.
If our kids leave our homes knowing how to study Scripture for themselves, trust God’s promises, and build a lasting faith rooted in Christ instead of a workbook, we’ve accomplished something far more valuable than simply finishing another Bible study.
