6 Amazing Biblical Mothers Prayers

We love it when you share!

Mothers’ prayers are powerful. Every child is different, and every mother is different. Yet our God does not change. He offers us comfort, peace, and help in scripture.

Every mother should pray for her children regardless of their behavior or mannerism. A good child deserves prayer and a “bad” child needs prayer. What other encouragement does a mother need besides this? For we know that.

“the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”

James 5:16

(NKJV)

Furthermore, God has a plan for every child and it’s our duty as mothers to stand in the place of prayer for our children.

Be encouraged with these scriptures and prayers for a mom that prays.

1. A Mothers Prayers for When you Need Answers – Jeremiah 33:3

The first bible verse about a mothers prayers is;

Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV)

This Bible verse about mothers’ prayers is God’s promise to every mother. And if you recall the story of Rebekah, that’s exactly what she did. When Rebekah was pregnant, she noticed there was a struggle in her womb, and she sought God in prayer.

But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the Lord. 23 And the Lord said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”

Genesis 25:22-23 (NKJV)

Rebekah prayed to God concerning her unborn children and God showed the remarkable things she didn’t know. In an age where there were no imaging devices, Rebekah divinely knew she was carrying twins. Not only that, but God also showed her the future of her children.

And God will do the same for any mother who asks.

2. A Prayer for When you Doubt, He Hears – Matthew 7:7-8

The second Bible verse about mothers prayers that we will look at is in Mathew 7:7-8;

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8 (NKJV)

This is another of God’s promises to us as mothers and believers that we shall receive when we pray.

These Bible verses about mothers’ prayers are filled with hope that God always listens.

Praying Mothers in the Bible

Hannah was a woman like us, she was ridiculed by her opponent due to her bareness, but she prayed, and God answered. You can read more about the lessons learned from Hannah’s prayer in my post on Biblical Examples of Answered Prayers.

Not only did God give Hannah a son, but He gave her five (5) additional children.

And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile the child Samuel grew before the Lord.

1 Samuel 2:21 (NKJV)

Do you have a need for your children? Are these bible verses about mothers prayers challenging you in your prayer life? Ask God, seek His face, and knock-on heaven’s doors through prayers.

3.A Prayer for When it Feels Impossible – 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray without ceasing, this is a direct command and it’s the third bible verse about mother’s prayers that we will review.

 pray without ceasing,

1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV)

Thank God for biblical examples of women that persisted in the place of prayer. A mother’s prayer for her children is powerful and the biblical example of the prophetess Anna is a wonderful example.

Prophetess Anna was a widow for eighty-four years, but she remained upbeat and served God tirelessly with her prayers.

Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.  And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

Luke 2:36-38 (NKJV)

Are you getting tired of praying for your children? Be encouraged today and know that God still answers prayers. And He will answer your prayers over your children just as He rewarded Anna by making her witness God’s gift of salvation.

4. A Prayer of Praise when your Mothers Prayers are Answered – James 5:16

Another bible verse about mother’s prayers for their children are found in James 5:16b

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

James 5:16b-18

Elijah a human being like us prayed fervently and God answered his prayers. In the same way, when we as mothers pray for our children, God will answer us and do the miraculous. One good thing about some of the (wo)men of faith is that God performed unprecedented miracles in their time. And because God is the same yesterday, today and forever, we can trust Him to do the same for us.

5.A Prayer for when you are Exhausted – Matthew 11:28-30

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)

This is an open invitation not just to mothers but to everyone burdened with a load of care.

Are you under a load of care? Is your burden too hard to bear? Bring it to Jesus today and He will give you the rest of your mind.

I took that decision to give my burden to Jesus twenty-something years ago and my life has never remained the same. Jesus took my pain, my shame, and my load of troubles. And in exchange, He gave me joy and peace of mind. Not only that, but my life also found new meaning since then.

6.A Mothers Prayers for Endurance – Genesis 16:13

One of the greatest examples of endurance that we have in the Bible is Hagar. Her circumstances were bleak at best. As a slave she had few rights, and her mistress Sari was essentially told to mistreat her. In the desert, God told her to go back to the same person that had mistreated her and that she would be blessed with so many descendants that no one could count them.

Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?”

Genesis 16:13 NKJB

We don’t have an option. Endurance and perseverance in motherhood come with the territory. But when it starts to feel tough you can try out to the God who sees and hears you.
