Waiting upon the Lord is never easy, especially during seasons of uncertainty. Discover what Scripture teaches about God’s perfect timing, active faith, spiritual growth, and trusting God’s plan when you’re tired of waiting for answers.
Have you ever reached the point where you’re simply tired of trusting God? Not because you don’t love Him. Not because you don’t believe His promises. But because you’ve been waiting for so long that you’re exhausted.
I think sometimes Christian women feel like we’re supposed to smile through every waiting season and say all the right things. We’re supposed to quote the Bible verses, trust God’s timing, and keep moving forward without admitting how difficult it really is.
But if I’m being honest with you today, there are seasons when waiting upon the Lord feels incredibly hard.
As many of you know, I’ve mentioned before that I’m parenting alone right now. It’s a strange kind of alone because my husband and I still talk multiple times a week. He is still very much a part of our family. Lord willing, he’ll be home sometime this summer.
I’ve chosen to share that I am parenting alone right now, but the details behind that season belong to our family.
What I can share is this: there have been many moments when I’ve questioned myself, questioned what God is doing, and quite frankly felt tired of waiting. Tired of trusting. Tired of wondering. Tired of living in the middle of a story that hasn’t reached its conclusion.
I know the right answers. I know God’s plan is bigger than my own understanding. I know God’s timing is perfect. I know God works all things together for good. I know healing and redemption often require a longer process than we would choose for ourselves.
I know all of that.
But sometimes knowing those things and living those things are very different experiences. If you find yourself in a waiting season today, I want to encourage you with something that God has been reminding me of lately:
Waiting is not wasted. Even when it feels like nothing is happening, God is still working. Join me today as we chit-chat about waiting on God while I spend time in the kitchen making einkorn bread and cooking up some radishes we picked in our garden. I’ll also be doing some normal homeschooling and homemaking tasks. Welcome to Healing Home. I hope you are encouraged and inspired by your time here.

Why Waiting Feels So Difficult
We live in a fast-paced society that loves immediate results. Need groceries? Have them delivered. Need information? Search for it online. Need entertainment? It’s available instantly. We’ve become accustomed to getting what we want when we want it.
But God often works differently.
Throughout Scripture, we see God’s people experiencing long periods of waiting. Joseph waited years before seeing the fulfillment of the dream God gave him. Abraham waited decades for God’s promise.
The Israelites waited to enter the Promised Land. David waited years between being anointed king and actually becoming king. Waiting has always been part of God’s plan for His people. Yet our human nature still fights against it.
We want answers now. We want healing now. We want restoration now. We want God to reveal the next thing immediately.
But God’s way is often slower than we would prefer because He is doing a deeper work than we can see.

Waiting Upon the Lord Produces Endurance
One of the greatest benefits of waiting upon the Lord is that it produces endurance. Nobody likes endurance while they’re building it. Just like nobody enjoys the discomfort of exercise while muscles are growing stronger. But endurance is essential for the good work God is doing in our lives.
Right now, I find myself living this lesson in real time. There are things in my life that I desperately want resolved. Situations where I would love for God to speed things up, provide clear answers, and bring everything to a neat and tidy conclusion.
Instead, He has asked me to wait.
Not for a few days or a few weeks, but for months. And if I’m honest, I don’t always do it gracefully.
There are days when I want to take matters into my own hands. Days when I want to know exactly what God is doing and how the story will end. Days when I wish He would hand me a timeline and tell me when the waiting season will finally be over.
Yet even in the waiting, I can see Him strengthening my faith. He’s teaching me to trust His character when I can’t see His plans. He’s teaching me to walk forward one faithful step at a time. And while I wouldn’t have chosen this season for myself, I can already see how God is using it to develop endurance that I couldn’t have gained any other way.
As difficult as times of waiting can be, God is often developing the endurance that we will need for the next season of life.
“Being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy.” Colossians 1:11

Einkorn Bread
I was thinking about this recently while making a loaf of einkorn bread. If you’ve ever baked with einkorn, you know it doesn’t behave quite like modern wheat. It can’t be rushed. You have to trust the process, give it the time it needs, and resist the temptation to force it along before it’s ready.

In many ways, waiting on God feels the same. We want immediate answers, immediate healing, and immediate results. Yet God often works slowly and intentionally, developing something beautiful beneath the surface that we cannot yet see. Just as dough rises in its appointed time, God’s plans unfold according to His perfect timing, not our own. The waiting may feel long, but that doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

Bible Studies As a Family
One of the things that has been encouraging me lately is our family’s summer Bible study.
We’ve been working through a Bible study from Not Consumed together, and honestly, it has become one of my favorite parts of our day when we are home and able to do it. The study we’re doing focuses on siblings, which has been incredibly practical for a house full of boys. It has led to some wonderful conversations, opportunities for growth, and moments where I’ve seen God’s Word take root in their hearts.
One of the things my boys have especially loved is that the study came with challenge cards. Each time they complete a challenge, they get to add a smiley face to a mason jar we’ve been using as a reward tracker. Day by day, smiley by smiley, they’ve watched the jar slowly fill up. It didn’t happen overnight. It took consistency, patience, and many small acts of faithfulness.
In fact, the jar is finally full, and today we’re heading out for special ice cream cones to celebrate.
As simple as that may seem, it reminds me a lot of our walk with God. So much of the Christian life is built through small acts of obedience that don’t seem significant in the moment. Reading Scripture. Saying a prayer. Choosing kindness. Trusting God one more day. Then one day, you look back and realize God has been doing far more than you could see in the moment.
Waiting upon the Lord often looks a lot less dramatic than we expect. More often than not, it looks like showing up faithfully today and trusting God with tomorrow. That’s one reason I’ve appreciated this study so much. It has been a beautiful reminder for our entire family that spiritual growth happens little by little, one faithful step at a time.

Waiting Gives Us Rest
This one might sound strange. How can waiting bring rest? Wouldn’t getting the answer immediately bring rest? Sometimes. But often waiting forces us to stop striving.
There comes a point when we realize we cannot manipulate circumstances to change. We cannot force God’s hand. We cannot create outcomes through sheer determination. And that realization can actually become a gift. Because when our own efforts run out, we’re left with an invitation to rest in God’s sovereignty.
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
Notice that Scripture doesn’t say those who rush ahead will renew their strength.
It says those who wait. There is something about resting in God’s perfect timing that renews a weary soul.

Waiting Teaches Us to Trust God Instead of Our Circumstances
One of the hardest lessons in the Christian life is learning that our circumstances are not the ultimate measure of God’s goodness. Circumstances change constantly. Finances change. Relationships change.
Health changes. Jobs change. Seasons change. But God does not.
The same God who was faithful yesterday is faithful today. The same God who carried you through previous difficulties is carrying you now. The same God who knows the end of your story is present in this chapter.
Waiting often strips away our dependence on circumstances and redirects our eyes toward Christ Jesus.
Instead of trusting what we can see, we learn to trust the One who sees the bigger picture.
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
Not some needs. Every need. Even in the midst of the wait.

If You’re Tired of Waiting
Maybe you’re waiting for healing. Maybe you’re waiting for answers. Maybe you’re waiting for restoration in a relationship. Maybe you’re waiting for a job, a child, a spouse, direction, peace, or simply the end of a difficult season.
Friend, I don’t come to you today as someone who has all the answers. I’m still in a waiting season myself. I’m still learning what active faith looks like when the finish line isn’t visible. I’m still learning to trust God’s perfect timing instead of my own understanding.

But here’s what I know: God has never once failed to keep His promises. Not in Scripture. Not in my life. And not in yours. The waiting process may feel long. The road may feel uncertain. The answers may not come as quickly as you hope.

But God’s love remains constant. His plans remain good. And His timing remains perfect. So if you’re in the waiting room today, don’t lose heart. Keep planting good seed. Keep seeking the Lord. Keep walking faithfully. Keep trusting Him one day at a time.
Because even when you cannot see it, God is still working. And one day, whether in this season or the next, you’ll look back and see that His timing was never late. It was right on time.
