As a homeschool mom, I’m always on the lookout for engaging activities that bring the natural world right to our doorstep. Nature study is an incredible way to connect kids with the great outdoors and explore various elements of earth sciences.
Whether you’re teaching 1st grade or middle school, incorporating nature into your lesson plans can make learning both fun and meaningful. It’s not just about identifying different animals or plants; it’s about fostering a lifelong appreciation for the environment and promoting outdoor education.

One of my summer reading books was a new release in 2023 called Rooted in Wonder. The author Eryn Lynum explores the topic of nurturing your family’s faith through God’s creation. It was an excellent book and an especially good read for during the summer. If you are looking to incorporate more nature study into your child’s education, I highly recommend that book. Meanwhile, you could also grab this nature bingo to complement any other nature study you are doing!
Although I wasn’t able to complete all my nature study plans for this past summer, we did enjoy a lot of outdoor time and free play, which for my age was very worthwhile.
How to Play Bingo
Looking for a fun game of bingo that the whole family can enjoy? Traditional bingo is always a hit, but adding a nature twist can make it even more exciting. Here’s a simple guide on how to play nature bingo:

- Take a Nature Walk: Head outside for a nature scavenger hunt. As you spot different items listed on your bingo cards, mark them off.
- Win the Game: The first person to mark off a complete line or pattern wins! You can offer a small prize like ice cream sundaes for a bit of extra fun.
This game could be played indoors, on the back porch, in a classroom, or really any time of the year!
