Dinosaurs come up a lot when kids are learning—questions about fossils, the ancient world, and how it all fits with the Bible. Instead of rushing past those conversations or feeling like I need all the answers, I’ve loved letting Scripture lead. As my kids trace and copy verses from Job and Psalms, we talk about God as Creator of every living thing—every land animal, every great beast, and every creature that ever breathed the breath of life. It’s been a gentle, grounding way to connect big wonder-filled questions back to God’s power and truth, right in the middle of our homeschool days.

What Is Copywork?

Copywork is a simple but powerful homeschooling method where children carefully write out meaningful passages—often Scripture—word for word. As kids trace and copy Bible verses, they practice handwriting, spelling, and focus, while also hiding God’s Word in their hearts.

In our homeschool, copywork is one of those simple practices that quietly carries so much fruit. We usually tuck it into morning time, when the house is still a little calmer, and everyone is more open to slowing down. I’ll read the verse aloud first, sometimes we’ll talk about a word or phrase that stands out, and then the kids get to work tracing and copying at their own pace. I often use it as a way to start school while I’m still clocked in at my remote job.

There’s no rush—just pencil on paper, Scripture being written, and truth settling in. On busy days, copywork feels grounding; on hard days, it feels peaceful. It’s less about perfect handwriting and more about giving God’s Word space to be written not just on the page, but on their hearts.

This slow, intentional process helps children notice details they might otherwise miss. Copywork allows Scripture to sink in—not just as words on a page, but as truth shaping the heart. For young adults, elementary learners, and even older children who need a calm rhythm, copywork creates space for reflection and peace.

In a world that often feels rushed, this practice encourages kids to pause and remember that every breath of life comes from the Lord God.

Dinosaur Bible Verses Copywork (ESV Translation)

This collection focuses on Scripture passages that highlight God’s wisdom, authority, and creative power—verses that naturally spark conversations about real creatures, the existence of dinosaurs, and how the Bible speaks to the ancient world.

Dinosaurs are not named using the modern word dinosaur in Scripture (the term was coined much later by Sir Richard Owen), but the Bible does describe great beasts, powerful creatures, and fearsome animals in vivid detail—especially in the book of Job.

That is why I’ve labeled this book “My Dinosaurs Inspired Bible Verses”; this keeps me true to scripture, while also offering a fun activity that is dinosaur themed!

Week 1: Job 12:7–9

These verses invite children to learn from the beasts of the earth, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea—every living creature that declares the hand of God. It’s a beautiful reminder that creation itself testifies to God’s power.

“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
    the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
    and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
Who among all these does not know
    that the hand of the Lord has done this?

Week 2: Job 12:10–12

Here we see that in God’s hand is the life of every living thing, including human beings. This passage opens gentle discussions about wisdom, age, and God’s sovereignty over the face of the whole earth.

In his hand is the life of every living thing
    and the breath of all mankind.
 Does not the ear test words
    as the palate tastes food?
Wisdom is with the aged,
    and understanding in length of days.

Week 3: Job 12:13–16

These verses focus on God’s strength and understanding. Even the strongest giant creature, the most fearsome wild animals, and every force in nature are under His control. This is a wonderful bridge to conversations about prehistoric creatures and God’s unmatched power.

“With God are wisdom and might;
    he has counsel and understanding.
If he tears down, none can rebuild;
    if he shuts a man in, none can open.
If he withholds the waters, they dry up;
    if he sends them out, they overwhelm the land.
With him are strength and sound wisdom;
    the deceived and the deceiver are his.

Week 4: Psalm 104:24–26

Psalm 104 celebrates creation in motion—the fish of the sea, the great sea creatures, and the abundance of life God made. Children see that God’s creativity extends from the smallest seed-bearing plant to the largest creatures that roam land and sea.

O Lord, how manifold are your works!
    In wisdom have you made them all;
    the earth is full of your creatures.
 Here is the sea, great and wide,
    which teems with creatures innumerable,
    living things both small and great.
There go the ships,
    and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it.

Week 5: Job 41:1–3

This passage describes Leviathan, a powerful and mysterious creature often discussed when families study dinosaur-like creatures or massive animals of the ancient texts. The imagery—fearsome teeth, great strength, and untamable power—points directly back to God’s power as Creator.

“Can you draw out Leviathan[b] with a fishhook
    or press down his tongue with a cord?
Can you put a rope in his nose
    or pierce his jaw with a hook?
Will he make many pleas to you?
    Will he speak to you soft words?

Why Use Copywork in Your Homeschool?

Copywork supports both academic growth and spiritual formation. As children write Scripture, they practice fine motor skills, attention to detail, and reading comprehension—all while engaging deeply with God’s Word.

This resource is especially helpful if you’re navigating questions about dinosaurs, fossil evidence, the fossil record, or the age of the Earth. Instead of turning every question into a debate, copywork allows Scripture to speak first. The Bible reminds us that God created everything with purpose—from the green plant and green herb to the mighty creatures described in Job.

It’s a gentle way to anchor learning in faith while leaving room for discussion as kids grow.

Encouraging Kids to Love God’s Word

Children are naturally curious about dinosaurs—about dinosaur bones, dinosaur fossils, and the idea of creatures that once roamed the earth. This resource meets that curiosity with truth, pointing kids back to the God who created the whole heaven, the land, the seas, and every creature that ever lived.

Rather than separating faith from learning, this copywork shows children that Scripture speaks into every area of life—even topics like dinosaurs that often feel confusing or controversial.

When kids see God’s Word connected to the wonders of creation, it builds trust in the biblical record and confidence that the Bible is relevant and alive.

If you are doing a dinosaur-themed school day or unit study (like us), these fossils were a huge hit in our sensory table!
