Our Favorite Part – I had no idea what to expect from this book. I actually have never seen a Bible children’s book that focuses on numbers. My favorite part was that each number has a section on the page that asks the question “Can you find:” It proceeds to ask the child to find a certain number of images on each page. It’s very applicable for early math development!

Where can I buy these books, what are the best ages for these books, and where can I buy them? Let’s dive deeper into those questions.

More About the Author

The author of My First 1 2 3 Book of Bible Numbers is Jonathan Gibson, PhD, and while he may not be a household name in every mom circle (yet!), he brings a depth of biblical knowledge and a heart for teaching that really shines through in this sweet little book. He’s an Associate Professor of Old Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, and he’s written several other resources, including The Moon Is Always Round—another beautiful children’s book you may have seen around.

Jonathan is ordained in the International Presbyterian Church (UK), and he’s also a husband and dad of four, so you just know he understands the importance of communicating big truths in little ways for little hearts. His Big Truths for Little Minds series is all about that very thing—offering rich, foundational theology in bite-sized pieces. And honestly? That’s exactly what this number book does. It’s teaching numbers and truths. Win-win!

More About the Illustrator

Let’s not forget the illustrations—because let’s be real, if a preschool book isn’t visually engaging, the kids aren’t going to stick around for long. The illustrations in My First 1 2 3 Book of Bible Numbers are by Michael Mullan, and they’re just so bright, engaging, and fun. Michael specializes in bold design and hand lettering, and you can really see that come through in this book. Each page is vibrant and playful without being chaotic—basically, it’s the kind of art that makes a toddler want to turn the page and see what’s next.

Each page draws little eyes in without overwhelming them, and she’s managed to bring warmth and life to each number, which isn’t an easy task when you’re working with concepts like “seven churches” or “ten commandments”! The illustrations really help tie the biblical references together with the numbers in a way that’s meaningful and age-appropriate.

The Layout

Okay, let’s talk layout. This book is a hard-cover book, which means it’s sturdy and can withstand a lot. Sticky fingers, snack time disasters, being thrown out of a crib—ask me how I know.

Each page focuses on a single number, from 1 to 12, plus a bonus 100 page (yes, there are a hundred things to count included!). What’s special is that each number is paired with a biblical concept or object. So instead of “2 bunnies,” you get “2 angels who appeared at the tomb.” Yes, that kind of awesome.

Here’s a little peek at what you might find:

  • 1 God
  • 5 smooth stones
  • 10 Commandments
  • 12 baskets of bread left over

Each number comes with a short sentence or two that explains the concept in kid-friendly language. My only wish is that they would have included a scripture reference to refer back to when peeking at the concept.

This format is perfect for short attention spans but still provides real spiritual meat. You could read the whole thing in one sitting, or use it to spark short conversations each day. Honestly, we’ve already read through it multiple times and it hasn’t gotten old.

Recommended Ages

I’d say the sweet spot for this book is toddlers to preschoolers—probably around ages 1 to 4. That said, even my five-year-old sat down to read it with us and chimed in with the stories behind the numbers. If you’ve got littles in that early learning window, this would be a great fit.

It’s simple enough for the really young ones to follow but meaningful enough to lay a foundation for faith conversations that can grow with your child.

If you’re homeschooling or just doing some casual home learning, this would also be a fun one to pair with counting practice or Bible memory.

Where to Buy

It’s also available at the usual spots like:

If you’re a mom who likes to plan ahead for gifts, I could totally see this being a thoughtful present for:

    • Baby showers
    • Baptism gifts
    • Easter baskets
    • Or just a “thinking of you” surprise for another mama in the trenches

Final Mom Thoughts on My First 123 Book of Bible Numbers

So here’s the bottom line: My First 1 2 3 Book of Bible Numbers is one of those sweet little books that does more than teach your child how to count. It weaves numbers together with Scripture and foundational truths that point little hearts toward Jesus—and it does it in a way that’s gentle, engaging, and super accessible.

As a mama of four little boys (almost 5) who is always trying to be intentional about what I’m pouring into my kids’ minds and hearts, I love that this book helps connect everyday learning (like numbers!) with eternal truths. It’s one of those small things that can become a big thing over time—helping your child grow familiar with the Word, recognize key Bible stories, and understand that God’s truth touches every part of life…even counting.

If you’re looking for a new book that’s as meaningful as it is cute, this one’s definitely worth a spot on the shelf.

Now excuse me while I go read it for the fifteenth time today—because that’s mom life, right?
