My First ABC Book of Bible Verses is about to hit the shelves on February 19th, 2024 and I was able to get a sneak peek at this adorable book for my children. New Growth Press has done it again in bringing a theology-rich, scripture-infused, and child-optimized book. Jonathan Gibson takes ownership of the writing and Mike Mullan has beautifully illustrated a book that could easily become your next keepsake book.
Let’s dive more into this book that introduces young children to the basic concepts of the Christian faith!

Our Favorite Part – I have two favorite parts! I love that the verses are in the ESV version of the Bible, which is what I use for my daily study. I also love the illustrations, they are very visually appealing for children.
Where can I buy these books, what are the best ages for these books, and where can I buy them? Let’s dive deeper into those questions.
My First ABC Book of Bible Verses
My First ABC Book of Bible Verses was written for toddlers and preschoolers who are learning their ABCs. What better way to learn your ABCs than accompanying key Bible verses from the Holy Scripture? Along with the key Bible verses, there are highly captivating illustrations with a short sentence to explain the verse.
Don’t think this book is just for parents though! Caregivers and grandparents alike will love using this book to teach little ones the foundational truths of the faith. Through these verses children will begin to see bigger truths like who Jesus is, why they need Jesus, how to become a child of God, plus many more life-changing truths.
This is the first book in a larger series called Big Truths of Little Minds. The series will introduce young children to the basic concepts of the Christian faith. I look forward to seeing more books from this series!
More about the Author
The following was taken from the New Growth Press website:
Jonathan Gibson, PhD, is ordained in the International Presbyterian Church (UK) and serves as Associate Professor of Old Testament, Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. He is the author of The Moon Is Always Round and coauthor of the Acrostic Theology for Kids series. He is married to Jackie, and they have four children.
More about the Illustrator
The following was taken from the New Growth Press website:
Michael Mullan is an artist and illustrator specializing in bold design, hand lettering, and whimsical maps. Michael grew up in the Chicago suburbs. He studied graphic design and earned an MFA in illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design. He lives and works from his home studio in Vermont. When he’s not creating art, he enjoys hiking, running trails, and being outdoors.
The Layout
The beautiful book follows a simple layout with a verse on each page, plus an explanation of the verse in one short sentence. There is one intro page that highlights Psalm 119:11:
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
There is not anything at the end of the book such as a parent guide or parent reference. It would be been nice to include something along those lines, but I also appreciate the simplicity of the layout and format.
Recommended Ages
The recommended age of this book is 3-5 years old. However, my 1-year-old is fascinated by the illustrations and commonly sits with the book and just flips through the pages. I have tried to read the verses to him, but he will immediately pull back and say “No, no!” He loves being read to, so I have found this an amusing quirk.
The Holy Scripture has no age limit, so in reality, this book is for all ages! I have found myself blessed by the verses and have immensely enjoyed reading them to my 1-year-old, 4-year-old, and 5-year-old.
You will find this book and others from New Growth Press highlighted in one of my latest YouTube videos. The books are found in the chapter bookmarked at 13:03.
Where to Buy
I highly encourage you to buy these books from New Growth Press as it is a great publishing company that produces gospel-filled books for all ages.
These smaller companies need more of our support than Amazon does! Don’t worry though, there’s no condemnation from me if you choose to buy from Amazon, as I frequently use them too. Just please consider shopping away from it when you can.
I have provided both links for your convenience!
We have so many New Growth Press-published books and we have never been disappointed with the content. Another recent favorite has been the Really Radical Book for Kids.
