In a world full of noise, chaos, and stressful situations, finding inner peace can feel like an uphill battle. Our minds race with anxious thoughts, our daily lives often seem full of difficulties, and at the end of the day, we’re just trying to catch our breath. The Bible isn’t silent on the topic of peace. Let’s look at Bible verses about inner peace amidst this crazy world.
I don’t know about you, but the world doesn’t seem peaceful right now. It’s an election year here in the United States, so that probably adds to my unease, but honestly the world hasn’t seemed peaceful for a long time. It’s partially due to the fact that we are constantly aware of the outside world.
Technology has allowed us to know what’s happening across the world within minutes or seconds of it happening. That is not something that human society has been privy to until only recently. Is it healthy for our minds? Our bodies? Our inner peace?
For all the good and bad that social media offers, it also has the power to shake our peace. I had never thought about this before listening to Shaye Elliot from the Elliot Homestead go on a wee bit of a rant about this, but social media plays with our emotions. One minute we can be laughing about something funny we see, and the next minute our heart is breaking as we empathize with another mama who went through a painful situation.
Shaye talks about how she just can’t go on that emotional rollercoaster. As moms, women, homemakers, etc we have enough emotions to go through without logging into social media and going on an expedition of extreme highs and lows from strangers or acquaintances on the internet.
I went on social media this morning and watched some content to see if my point could be proven. Within five minutes I chuckled at a set of parents struggling to enjoy a family vacation because of the absurdity of their kid’s antics and then the very next reel I teared up as a couple said goodbye to their three-month-old baby in the hospital, who was hooked up to machines and wires.
I’m not attempting to make light of other people’s absolute pain or say that as Christians we shouldn’t be empathizing and ministering to those around us, but I’d rather save those emotions to minister to the people in my own life. My neighbors, family, friends, and church family.
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that I didn’t have to feel the extreme rollercoaster of emotions this morning. I could have simply closed my phone, opened my Bible, and rather than feel the unease of the world, felt the peace of God’s Word.
We’re not going to find peace in this world in the way we desire. It’s no secret that this world is broken.
But God’s Word offers us true peace, a peace that goes beyond the temporary calm that external circumstances might bring. It’s a peace of God that steadies our hearts and minds, even when the world around us feels unstable.

5 Bible Verses about Inner Peace
Having peace in a world that has gone crazy is something that you have to work for and it comes from our Lord Jesus. However, there is also a peace that we have to work for and can make around our home.
There are practical things that we can do every day like open our Bible and saturate ourselves with God’s Word. Or physically make our home a peaceful place. It’s those little but practical things like keeping a clean home, hanging laundry on a drying line, cutting a bouquet of wildflowers, baking a loaf of bread, or lighting a candle that can create a peaceful environment. I call these my pockets of peace and I really do think that they make a difference in providing our senses with peace.
Whether you’re navigating hard times or just craving a deeper sense of peace, the Bible is filled with powerful verses that can help you find peace of mind and inner calm. We’re going to look at five profound Bible verses that speak about inner peace and offer practical applications for finding peace in your daily life. So grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and let’s dive into God’s promises for peace.
1. Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7 ESV
This verse is like a breath of fresh air, especially in stressful situations. The peace of God doesn’t rely on our own understanding or the absence of conflict. It’s not based on whether our external circumstances are perfect or even good. Instead, this peace comes from Christ Jesus, and it surpasses everything we could ever comprehend.
The Apostle Paul penned these words while he was imprisoned—talk about difficult times! Yet, even in such a bleak environment, Paul experienced true peace because his heart and mind were guarded by Christ Jesus.
For me, this verse is a reminder that no matter what I’m facing, we can access this same peace by anchoring ourselves in the love of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. Next time you feel overwhelmed, meditate on this verse and ask the Lord to guard your heart and mind. It’s a powerful reminder that His peace is greater than any anxiety or stress we might feel.
Honestly, my mind goes to this verse during my everyday struggles. When I’m in mom mode and at the proverbial ‘end of my rope’, my mind goes to this verse. It’s the word ‘guard’ that gets me. The idea that my savior will ‘guard’ my heart and mind even in everyday struggles makes me feel so loved and free.
2. Isaiah 26:3
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
Isaiah 26:3 ESV
If I were truthful, I’d say that to some extent, all these verses stretch my mind’s comprehension. You see, sometimes I get super focused on God’s wrath, his sovereignty, his might, and my sinful nature. Not that it’s bad to be aware of these things, but as the cliche goes, ‘all in balance’. Just as our Savior has perfect wrath, he also has perfect peace. Unlike humans, his characteristics are perfect.
Sometimes I can’t wrap my mind around the extreme love of God.
Perfect peace. Doesn’t that sound amazing? In a chaotic world, the idea of perfect peace may seem impossible. But Isaiah tells us that when we focus our minds on God and trust in Him, we can experience this perfect peace.
The Lord of Peace promises to keep us in perfect peace when we fix our hearts and minds on Him. This doesn’t mean that we won’t face difficult situations or experience hard times, but it does mean that the presence of God will provide us with a peace that calms our anxious thoughts and fills our hearts with a sense of peace.
To experience this peace, we need to align ourselves with God’s way, trusting that His plan is always good, even when we don’t fully understand it. Isaiah’s words remind us to look beyond man’s ways and put our faith in the mighty hand of God, the Everlasting Father who loves us deeply.
3. Colossians 3:15
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:15 ESV
This verse brings it home in a practical way. The peace of Christ isn’t just something we feel when we have moments of peace. It’s meant to rule in our hearts every day. In our daily lives, whether in our relationships, our Christian community, or our personal decisions, we are called to let the peace of Christ take charge.
Paul’s use of the word “rule” here suggests that peace isn’t something passive. It’s active, like an umpire calling the shots in a game. The peace of Christ directs our thoughts and actions, helping us make decisions based on love, patience, and the wisdom of the Bible, rather than reacting out of stress or fear.
Next time you find yourself in a tense situation, remember to let Christ’s peace call the shots. Ask yourself: Is this decision guided by peace, or by anxiety and fear? Let the peace of Christ guide you, and you’ll begin to bear good fruits like patience, gentleness, and self-control—fruits of the Spirit that reflect God’s peace in your life.
4. John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
John 14:27 ESV
When Jesus spoke these words to His disciples, He knew that they would soon face some of the most difficult times in their lives. Yet, He promised them His peace—a peace that is unlike anything the world can offer. The peace of God isn’t temporary or dependent on circumstances. It’s a peace rooted in the unfailing love of God and the presence of the Holy Spirit.
In our daily life, we often look for peace in all the wrong places. We think if we could just fix this one issue, achieve that goal, or get through this season, we’ll finally find peace. But the truth is, the peace Jesus offers us is available right now, in the middle of our current circumstances. It doesn’t matter if it’s a very painful family event or something simply like frustrations with the mounting laundry or a child’s wrongful behavior. His peace is available in the middle of your current circumstance. Right now.
This verse reminds us that we don’t have to be troubled or afraid. The Prince of Peace is with us, and He has given us His peace to sustain us through every valley of the shadow of death and every mountain we face.
5. Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Romans 15:13 ESV
Paul’s blessing in this verse is a beautiful reminder that peace and joy go hand in hand. The God of hope not only fills us with peace but also with joy as we trust in Him. And this isn’t just any peace—it’s a peace that overflows, fueled by the power of the Holy Spirit.
When we trust in God, even in stressful situations, we can have access to this peace that surpasses all understanding. It’s a peace that brings us hope, even in the midst of difficult situations. The power of the Holy Spirit helps us to walk in this peace daily so that we aren’t just surviving—we’re thriving, filled with joy and hope no matter what’s going on around us.
Practical Applications for Daily Life
Now that we’ve explored these five Bible verses about peace, how do we practically apply them to our daily lives? It’s one thing to read about peace, but how do we actually experience it when life feels overwhelming?
Here are some practical ways to embrace the peace of God in your daily life:
- Meditate on God’s Word – Make it a habit to meditate on Bible verses that speak about peace. Verses like Isaiah 26:3 and Philippians 4:7 can serve as daily reminders that God’s peace is available to you, even in stressful situations. - Let it Rule– Colossians 3:15 reminds us that we need to let the peace of Christ RULE in our hearts. We can’t be passive about pursuing peace. It’s an active step that we strive for every day.
- Find Pockets of Peace – I love the idea of making pockets of peace in our home. It will look different for everyone. I find that lighting a candle, baking some bread, bringing flowers in, and sitting down for a cup of coffee provide little pockets of peace that reframe my mindset. Everyone will have to determine for themselves what their pockets of peace are.
