Looking for Christmas Copywork ideas for your homeschool? This Christmas Copywork collection uses Bible verses about the birth of Jesus to strengthen handwriting skills, focus on God’s Word, and celebrate the true meaning of the season.
There’s just something special about doing copywork during the Christmas season. Maybe it’s the smell of cinnamon and pine, the sound of Christmas bells, or the quiet moments when your kids are bent over their written work copying a beautiful piece of Scripture. For our family, Christmas copywork is a great way to slow down in the month of December and keep our hearts centered on the true reason for the season—the birth of Jesus.
This year, I added a new Christmas Bible Verse Copywork booklet to our homeschool routine, and it’s been such a sweet addition! My younger kids are working on letter formation, while my older children are practicing longer passages and focusing on correct spelling, punctuation, and paying close attention to the exact detail of each word.

What is Copywork?
Copywork is one of the popular writing methods in homeschooling circles—and for good reason. It’s a simple yet powerful way for children to improve their handwriting skills while soaking in quality pieces of writing. The idea is to have your child copy passages of Scripture, poetry, or great literature word-for-word, learning from the written work of excellent communicators.
A good rule of thumb is that younger kids start with short sentences or simple Bible verses, while older children can handle lengthy verses. Over time, this habit strengthens attention to punctuation, quotation marks, and correct spelling, while also training the mind to notice beauty in words and truth in meaning.
It’s the perfect way to merge language arts with Scripture memory and remember the true meaning of the season.

Christmas Bible Verses for Copywork (ESV Translation)
Here are the six Bible verses featured in this Christmas Copywork collection—perfect for early elementary school students through about 3rd grade. Each one tells a part of the Christmas story and helps children remember God’s Word in a gentle, repetitive way.
Luke 2:1
“In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.”
Isaiah 9:6
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Luke 2:6–7
“And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.”
Matthew 2:1–2
“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.’”
Luke 1:27–28
“To a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, ‘Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!’”
Luke 2:13–14
“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!’”
Why Use Christmas Copywork in Your Homeschool
During this busy holiday season, I like to slow down our lesson plans a bit. We might pause science experiments and slow down full lesson plans, but we always make time for copywork printables and memory verses.
Copywork helps kids develop fine motor skills and handwriting fluency while also giving them time to reflect. When my seven-year-old copies a Scripture verse, we take time to talk about the meaning of any unknown words and the true meaning of the season.
What’s Included in This Christmas Copywork Collection

Encouraging Kids to Love God’s Word
If you’re like me, you want your kids to not only write beautifully but also ingest Scripture—to let the Word of God shape their hearts. The Christmas season is the perfect time to nurture that habit. Even a few minutes a day copying Bible passages can lead to great conversations about Jesus.
`A reasonable developmental goal is to focus on just one verse each week. Don’t worry about rushing. Copywork is meant to be peaceful and thoughtful, not stressful. “
Free Resources & Extra Copywork Ideas
If you’re building your homeschool notebook for Advent, I also have free printables and additional copywork booklets you can download. Here is my ‘normal Bible verse copywork booklet‘ and here is my ‘Thanksgiving Bible verses copywork booklet‘.
I’d also love to invite you to my email list which is a once a week newsletter. It’s a great way to get updates, find new free copywork pages, and discover more subject areas to weave into your weekly lesson grids.
Next time you’re planning out December, think of ways to include copywork alongside your favorite Christmas poems, non-fiction books, and Bible verses. It’s such a simple yet excellent piece of your language arts rhythm—and it helps your children truly celebrate the true meaning of the season.
From our home to yours—Merry Christmas, and may your homeschool be filled with the peace of Christ and the joy of His coming!
