10 Thanksgiving Bible Verses for Kids
This year in our homeschooling, I’ve been using copywork Bible verses with my seven-year-old, and it has been such a sweet way to help him slow down and really take in God’s Word. These Thanksgiving Bible verses for kids are perfect for copywork, memory work, or simply reading together as a family during the holiday season.
1. Psalm 100:4–5
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.”
This verse is a favorite during the Thanksgiving holiday. It reminds us that the Lord God Almighty welcomes us into His house with open hands, and we can come before Him with a grateful heart.
2. Colossians 3:15
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
This short Bible verse is perfect for young children learning about the peace of God. A great reminder that a thankful heart grows when the peace of Christ rules within us.
3. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
This verse teaches kids the important truth that gratitude is not just for good things or easy times but even during hard times. It shows the essence of thankfulness and the will of God for our lives today.
4. Psalm 95:1–2
“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!”
A favorite Bible verse for the Thanksgiving holiday, this passage is filled with joyful songs and praises of the name of the Lord. It is a great way to encourage kids to lift their voices in shouts of grateful praise.
5. James 1:17
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
This thanksgiving scripture reminds us that every good gift comes from the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. What a wonderful reminder during the holiday season when kids are thinking about the best things in life—God gives us the perfect gift of His Son and every blessing we enjoy.
6. Psalm 107:1
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!”
This verse is a great scripture memory verse for kids. It focuses on the unfailing love and goodness of God—a truth young hearts can carry with them during the Thanksgiving season and beyond.
7. Ephesians 5:19–20
“Addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
These verses show the importance of gratitude expressed in songs of praise. They are perfect for Thanksgiving Sunday school lessons or even Bible verse songs to sing at the dinner table.
8. Psalm 92:1–2
“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night.”
This psalm of thanksgiving teaches kids to begin and end their day with gratitude. It is a great scripture for personal quiet time or for handwriting practice during Christian school lessons.
9. Hebrews 13:15
“Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.”
This verse reminds us of the sacrifice of thanksgiving—praising God even when we don’t feel like it. It is a great reminder to kids that the praises of the name of God are powerful and bring glory of God into our lives.
10. Psalm 95:6–7
“Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.”
One of the most beautiful thanksgiving scriptures, this verse highlights that we are the sheep of His pasture. It shows the love and care of the great King who provides for the longing soul and the hungry soul alike.
Helping Kids Learn Thanksgiving Scriptures
In our homeschool this year, we’ve been using copywork as part of our routine, and it has been such a blessing—especially with my seven-year-old. Copywork is simply the practice of writing down passages of Scripture (or other good literature) slowly and carefully. It’s amazing how something as simple as writing out a verse helps little hearts and minds really take it in. When my son writes the words of God, he’s not just practicing handwriting; he’s memorizing, reflecting, and learning to carry those truths with him.
The Thanksgiving holiday feels like the perfect time to lean into this practice. These verses have given us natural opportunities to pause and talk about gratitude, God’s steadfast love, and the joy of giving thanks in all circumstances. However you choose to weave Scripture into your family rhythms, whether it’s through copywork, reading Bible stories at the dinner table, or even playing a memory game, helping kids memorize and ingest God’s Word is one of the greatest gifts we can give them. It’s a beautiful way to nurture a thankful heart and to point them back to the Lord God Almighty, the true source of every good and perfect gift.
A Heart of Gratitude in Hard Times
It’s easy to express thanks when life feels full of good things and wondrous works. But the Bible also calls us to thank God during hard times. These short Bible verses remind us that the great God who does wonderful deeds is also present in our struggles.
Helping kids understand the importance of gratitude during difficult seasons plants seeds of faith that will grow strong as they face life’s challenges. A spirit of thanksgiving is not just for the holiday season but for every day we live in the will of God.
