Around our home, we are constantly looking for creative ways to teach the Bible throughout our curriculum and home life. I certainly do not do a great job all the time, but there certainly have been little sprinkles of Biblical truths from the Beatitudes, the Fruits of the Spirit, the Armor of God, and beyond. These free Beatitudes printables are a way of again increasing our daily exposure to the timeless truths of Matthew 5:3-12.
What are the Beatitudes?
The Beatitudes are a set of blessings that Jesus proclaimed in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:3-12). They describe the attitudes and qualities that lead to true happiness and blessedness in the kingdom of heaven. These teachings are considered a cornerstone of Christian ethics, providing a roadmap for righteous living.
What is the Beatitudes Order?
The Beatitudes are presented in a specific order, each building upon the previous one. They outline a progression of spiritual qualities, starting with humility and leading to mercy, purity of heart, and a commitment to peace. Understanding this order is crucial for grasping the full significance of the Beatitudes.
When I am teaching these to younger children, I do try to not get caught up on the order as much. Their understanding of what each means is more important than getting the order correct. As children become older, memorizing the verses in order can be more of a priority.
- Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:3 ESV)
- Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4 ESV)
- Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. (Matthew 5:5 ESV)
- Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. (Matthew 5:6 ESV)
- Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. (Matthew 5:7 ESV)
- Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8 ESV)
- Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)
- Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:10 ESV)
