As a homemaker, life can feel like an endless to-do list—always busy, always moving. But even in the midst of it all, we can find those small moments of goodness. What I like to call “Pockets of Peace.” These are the little bits of time and space in our daily routines where we can slow down, breathe, and let the nervous system relax, even if just for a moment.
I have no idea where I originally heard the expression “Pockets of Peace”, but I’ve recently learned that it gained traction by Inspired by creators like Nabela Noor, whose TikTok “pocket of peace” series highlights how even the busiest days have pockets of peace.
Let’s explore how we can make these moments happen during the everyday tasks that make up a homemaker’s day. We’ll look at pockets of peace in being outdoors, pockets of peace with our children, pockets of peace in our laundry routine, and pockets of peace in the kitchen.

What are Pockets of Peace?
Pockets of peace are those tiny, intentional breaks in your day where you stop, exhale, and ground yourself. They are moments where you catch a breath, calm your nervous system, and focus on the little things that make life rich.
They’re not necessarily long or elaborate—they can be found in the simplest tasks. It’s about slowing down, being present, and finding joy in the ordinary. These small moments can transform our entire day if we learn to seek them out.
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Colossians 3:2 ESV
When we intentionally seek out pockets of peace, we create moments where we can reflect on the grace and love of Christ, anchoring us in the midst of hectic days.
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:15 ESV
Letting His peace rule our hearts means finding space for it throughout our day—pausing in gratitude for His grace, remembering His promises, and trusting that He is in control, even when life feels chaotic.
I felt the need for these pockets of peace very palatably this week. There wasn’t a tipping point or something exceptionally unnerving. It was just the everyday life and stresses that were wearing on my mind. We’ve all been there and I began to think about the intentional ways I incorporate these pockets of peace both intentionally and unintentionally into my day as a way of coping with those everyday stresses.
If I had to guess, I’d wager to say that many moms unintentionally add pockets of peace into our days. I’ve found, however, that it’s good to think through what these are because it helps bring clarity to how we react and deal with stress.
These moments of peace not only refresh our spirits but also help us approach the rest of our day calmly and grounded in the love and peace of Jesus.
Pockets of Peace in the Morning
Mornings are often chaotic, especially with children, and in my case especially if your working in the mornings, but there’s a way to carve out peace even here.
When I wake up I like to start my day with Bible reading and prayer. I don’t do this time perfectly and I’m often distracted, but when we set routines even when they are not perfect, they help us set the posture of our heart correctly.
I find that Bible reading helps set the posture of my heart for the day. If you follow me on Instagram and wonder why I always record my Bible reading and share a verse, it’s not because I want to appear pious or inspire others to read their Bible. I hope inspiring others is a byproduct of the effort, but years ago I decided that if I was going to share my life as a small part of this business, then the first IG story of every day needed to be dedicated to the Lord.
Before the house wakes up, take a few minutes to sit with a warm cup of coffee or tea. Savor the quiet before the day begins. If you’re able to, step outside and feel the coolness of the morning air. These little things—before the rush of breakfast and preparing for school—are pockets of peace that can center you for the day ahead. You’ll feel more grounded, and that feeling can carry you through the busiest hours.
Pockets of Peace Outside
There’s something about being outside that naturally invites peace into our hearts. Whether it’s a quiet moment in the backyard, or just standing still and taking in the beauty of creation, the outdoors can be a perfect place to find pockets of peace. The fresh air, the sound of birds, the rustling of leaves—these small moments of nature can calm the mind and soothe the soul.
There is something so peaceful about the transition of summer to fall and then fall to winter and we are in the sweet spot where there are days I can feel both transitions. This is why I love our specific spot in the Midwest. Ask me again when it’s negative 30 degrees outside and our 4-wheel drive vehicle is stuck in our driveway in a 5-foot drift of snow, I’ll probably tell you I’m moving to Texas next year, but right now during my favorite time of year, being outside at any point is a pocket of peace that can’t be beaten.
Even if you don’t have much time, just stepping outside for a few minutes can do wonders for your nervous system. Let the warmth of the sun or the coolness of the breeze remind you of God’s presence in the everyday. Taking time to notice the little things—like the colors of the sky or the texture of the grass under your feet—can help you pause and reset. These outdoor pockets of peace are not only refreshing but also grounding, helping you re-enter your tasks with a clearer, more centered mindset.
Pockets of Peace with Your Children
Finding peace when you have little ones around can feel like an impossible task, but it’s so important to embrace these small moments. Whether it’s reading a book together, cuddling before bed, or simply listening to their laughter, these pockets of peace remind us of the joy and goodness in family life. Sometimes, in the midst of the noise and activity, we miss those moments of connection, but if we slow down, we can notice them more. These moments—however small—are true gifts.
I shared this week on Instagram a quote that I pieced together from a few other mothering quotes. It went like this,
“Let’s be honest, sometimes motherhood takes the strength of Samson, the wisdom of Solomon, the patience of Job, the faith of Abraham, the insight of Daniel, and the courage of David. And at the end of the day, we still need a heavy dose of the grace of Jesus.”
Homeschooling is a joy for me, but at 10 weeks into our homeschool year, I’m already finding myself drifting and wishing for our month-long Christmas break. I like to incorporate more printables and crafts into our homeschool routine when I’m feeling a bit burnt out.
Over on the blog, there are oodles of Fall and Thanksgiving printables including these First Day of Fall Coloring pages, Thanksgiving coloring pages with scripture verses, so many printable Bingos, a printable gratitude tree, and more!
I hope you’ll go check them out!

Being a mom is hard work, last week’s YouTube video was all about motherhood being hard, but motherhood also has some of the sweetest pockets of peace. Putting a baby down for a nap, holding a toddler when they need a calming moment, hearing the sweet sound of ‘I luv you‘ from the lips of your son, and listening to the adventures of my older boys around the dinner table.
What are the pockets of joy you find in your motherhood? I’d love to hear them.
Pockets of Peace in Your Laundry Routine
Laundry might seem like the most mundane of tasks, but it’s a perfect place to cultivate peace.
I’ve spoken about before my distaste for laundry. It’s so mundane and it’s a task we can’t get away from doing. Want to know something crazy? And I’m not just saying this. This past week as I grabbed my boys’ laundry from the washer and decided to line-dry it, I realized how much I looked forward to this task. It’s not because it’s something super enjoyable like drinking a hot cup of coffee on the back of my porch. No, it’s because I’ve learned to cultivate a pocket of peace through a more mundane task. Hanging laundry on a line certainly takes a little more time and effort, but it’s truly a pocket of peace as I listen to the wind, my livestock living, my kids playing, and the smell of the air throughout the seasons.
Even in the winter when line drying isn’t an option, I’ve learned to take these moments as meeting times with God. It’s a little bit of comfort in the middle of an otherwise hectic day. Folding laundry can be meditative, too.
For those personalities out there that love order, you can make laundry very satisfying by learning to fold fabrics in neat ways. The Folding Lady on Instagram has so many tips. She is actually where I learned to fold my towels in a way that fits my space better!
These small moments of mindfulness can turn laundry into a pocket of peace.
Pockets of Peace in Your Kitchen
The kitchen can be a place of stress—cooking, cleaning, endless dishes—but it can also be a sanctuary. I have to say that more times than not, I have to work to find peace in my kitchen, but this week those pockets of peace came rather naturally.
I tend to find more calming moments when I’m baking than cooking, which to me is just a more creative process. There was a really fascinating study that the Old Fashioned on Purpose podcast spoke about last year. The study went into great detail about the benefits of working with our hands to the extent that it literally will change our brain chemistry for the better. Things like knitting, baking, and gardening will benefit your mind and wellness.
See a summary article here or another one here.
As you prepare meals, try to take in the smells, the colors, and the textures. There’s something so satisfying about the little rhythms of chopping, stirring, and plating food. I often feel overwhelmed with the task of the never-ending cycle of feeding my family, but these moments of creativity in the kitchen are acts of sacrifice and love, which in turn means you are serving the Lord.
My family has been gobbling up deviled eggs lately. For years I thought deviled eggs took way too long to prepare, but I’m finding that once I get the right process for hard-boiling them so they are easy to peel, it really isn’t as much time as I thought. Not to mention eggs are a super food, so why not use something we have abundance in?
However the real pocket of peace this week was revisiting a sourdough recipe that I thought I hated making: pies. I’ve never loved making pies, but I was inspired to use the cherry tree fruit that we preserved this year because it’s what we ended up having the largest harvest of. We have cans and cans of honey-preserved cherries and bags of plain frozen cherries. My homestead brain is switching over from prioritizing in the kitchen fresh produce from our gardens, to what we have preserved.
I find this sourdough pie crust very versatile because you can either roll it out between two parchment papers or press it into a pie dish. I actually did both in making this pie. The bottom crust was pressed into the pan, and the top was rolled out. Both methods work well. The cherry mixture also contained a mix of stevia, erythritol, honey, and as a thickener glucomannan. All of which are natural and healthy ingredients.
We actually ended up having this as a quick breakfast on a Saturday morning, which was a riot for the kiddos!
These small moments in the kitchen remind us that we don’t have to rush through our days relying on our own strength. Instead, we can pause and let His peace wash over us. Even when we’re just rolling out dough! Whether it’s a deep breath in between tasks, a few minutes of quiet in prayer, or simply pausing to admire a sunset, these pockets of peace center our hearts back on Jesus. They’re a reminder that, in the midst of chaos, His peace is steady and unchanging.
3 Bible Verses about Peace to Refresh Your Time
When I need to reset and find that peace again, I turn to Scripture. Here are three Bible verses that help refresh my spirit when I feel overwhelmed:
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7 ESV
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Isaiah 26:3 ESV
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
John 14:27 ESV
A World of Distractions, and the Benefits of the Pockets of Peace
In a world full of distractions, and days full of responsibilities, it’s easy to overlook the small, precious moments. But, we can find those little bits of calm in our routines too. Whether it’s the softness of laundry, the quiet before the house wakes, the sensory joy of the kitchen, or the sweetness of time with our children, we can invite peace into our lives in intentional ways.
Seek out these pockets of peace and let them fill you with a sense of calm, no matter how busy the day becomes.
