Creativity is an intrinsic part of the Christian life. Whether through artistic expression, homemaking, or daily acts of faith, Christian creativity is a reflection of God’s image in us. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, shaping a world filled with beauty, order, and life. As image bearers of God, we, too, are called to create.
The great thing is that our creative process can be an act of worship and a testament to His transformative work in our lives. And here’s some more good news, it does not have to be complicated or elaborate.
For the homemaker, creativity is found in the rhythms of daily life—in preparing meals, designing a peaceful home, or teaching children the Word of God.
Christian creatives across all disciplines—whether painters, writers, musicians, or homemakers—engage in creative work that is infused with purpose, drawing from the wellspring of divine inspiration. The Holy Spirit breathes life into our creative pursuits, guiding our hands and hearts in ways that honor Him.
This week, I set out with what I would consider a creative endeavor. It had nothing to do with a artistic talent where I grabbed a canvas and skillfully crafted a scene. Sometimes I think we are very narrow-minded in what we consider ‘creative’. Creativity can include many different outlets. For me, this week my creativity turned to my kitchen and desire to have my refrigerator match my rather beloved Elmira Stove.
This project has been rumminating in my mind for quite some time and I finally set out to use some simple tools to craft a semi-matching refrigerator. Whether you call it creative or not, it was a fun and relaxing project. My aim with this article and accompanying blog post is to encourage you in your creative process, no matter what shape it takes.

Why Christian Creativity? – Our Creativity Needs Jesus
Our creative inspiration must be anchored in Christ. When we pursue creative work for self-glory, we misplace its true purpose. The theology of creativity teaches us that all good works, including our artistic designs and homemaking efforts, are meant to reflect God’s nature. As Jesus commands in Luke 10:27, we are to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind—this includes our creative gifts.
And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
Luke 10:27 ESV
Christian creativity is not merely about producing great art or excellent work but about aligning our creative potential with God’s purpose.
When we submit our creative skills to Christ, He transforms them into something more profound—acts of worship that glorify His name and serve others. Whether through music, writing, or homemaking, our creative projects should point to Christ Jesus, making His presence known in beautiful ways.
Christ Stands Over Your Creativity – We Are Image Bearers
Christian imagination is a powerful tool when surrendered to God. Christ does not stand against our Christian creativity but over it, shaping and refining our creative spirit. As Christian artists, writers, and homemakers, we must recognize that our works of art, from the most intricate paintings to the smallest homemaking details, are a reflection of God’s handiwork.
In the biblical narrative, we see that God delights in the creative power He bestows upon His people. Our artistic creations and creative expressions should mirror His beauty and truth.
The gospel re-creates us, allowing our creativity to become an extension of His grace. Every creative person has the opportunity to display the silver threads of redemption in their work, revealing how God’s providence restores and transforms.
Beauty in Creativity – You Find Beauty in the Places Where God Has Healed You
The process of creating is often a journey of restoration. Like kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer, God uses our creative pursuits to heal and redeem. The fractures in our lives become testimonies of His grace, and our creative efforts display His transformative power.
Whether through painting, homemaking, writing, or music, we find beauty in the places where God has healed us. Artistic expression becomes a means of testifying to His goodness. Our creative potential is not just about personal fulfillment but about reflecting on the new creation that Christ brings into our lives. This is why Christian creatives must embrace their creative skills as gifts meant for the kingdom of God.
Creativity and the Homemaker
Homemaking is an act of worship, a sacred space where Christian creativity flourishes. Every meal prepared, every room arranged, and every lesson taught to children is an opportunity to display the reflection of God’s order and love.
The creative work of a homemaker is no less significant than that of a painter or musician; it is an expression of deep relationships, love, and service.
God-given creativity finds its way into homemaking through the way we cultivate warmth and peace in our homes. A well-kept home filled with the Word of God, the aroma of nourishing food, and the sound of hymns is a work of art in itself. The Christian life is not separate from creativity but deeply intertwined with it, as every homemaker’s best efforts contribute to a beautiful reflection of God’s care.
Your Creativity Will Speak His Name
Creative people, whether professionals or homemakers, must remember that their creative work speaks of Christ Jesus. Sometimes, our work explicitly declares His name; other times, it subtly reveals His truth.
My little fridge redo is a testament to the love I have for my family, it’s a small way I express joy in my work as a mother and homemaker. I love before and after pictures of home DIY projects. They are satisfying for more than one reason, but they also remind us in a subtle way of the before and after work that Christ does in our life, which is an ongoing process. There will never be a ‘before’ and ‘after’ work of Christ’s sanctification because his grace is neverending.

Creative expressions should serve as testimonies of His grace.
Christian professionals, artists, and homemakers alike should strive to create excellent work that points others to the glory of God. This doesn’t mean every creative project must be overtly religious, but rather that it should be infused with truth, goodness, and beauty. Our creative freedom, when guided by the Holy Spirit, leads us to honor God in all that we do.
Christian Creativity
At the end of the day, Christian creativity is about more than producing beautiful works of art (or even a semi-matching fridge)—it is about glorifying God through our creative efforts. Whether we are artists, writers, homemakers, or creative professionals, we are called to use our creativity for His kingdom.
The idea of creativity is not merely human history repeating itself but a reflection of God’s ongoing work in the world.
Our creative gifts are meant to be used in service to others, illuminating the Word of God and pointing to the new way of life found in Christ. As image bearers of God, we are called to create with purpose, excellence, and faithfulness, always remembering that our creativity is an act of worship.
