Why do we need a formula for prayers? Isn’t it just a conversation between our heavenly father and ourselves? That is 100% true. In fact, I have rarely used a rote prayer that I’ve found online and recited it. However, I have used rote prayers as a guide to help direct my thoughts.

Valentine’s Day prayers can be used as a guide throughout this ‘season of love to reach out to your Heavenly Father and pray for those you love and also pray for yourself throughout the season.

Valentine’s Day Prayers for Parents

These prayers are for parents to pray over their children. What a blessing it is to parent these impressible young children. They are loved by us but loved perfectly by our God.

Dear Father,

I love my children so much, but I know that it pales in comparison to the overwhelming love that you have for them.

I desire to teach my children true love that they can display to the world. Show us the overlooked ways that we do not love others fully.

I ask that I can be an instrument for your sovereign will. May my weaknesses become your strengths and may my children see the evidence of that.

In your name I pray,

Valentine's Day Prayers

Dear Lord,

Thank you for the blessing of my children. They bring me such joy and I know that they are a gift that you have generously given.

I pray that I will not take this gift for granted and I will love them in the way that you wish.

Sometimes my patience wears thin and I know that I am not in the center of your will. I pray for forgiveness those days and for gentle reminders to be back at the center of your will.

In your name, I pray these things,

Valentine’s Day Prayers Singleness

Singleness can be a beautiful season of one’s life. However, the season of Valentine’s Day can be a stark reminder of your singleness. Don’t despair, God has a plan for this season of your life. You can use these prayers as a cry out to God.

This Valentine’s Day season is a blunt reminder that I have been kept single. I long for the companionship that a relationship would bring, but I also want to trust that you have kept me single for a reason. Help me be content where you have placed me.

Hear my heart’s desire for a godly man that loves me unlike anyone else. Thank you that for this season I can rest in your strength and presence.

In Jesus’ name amen.

Dear Abba Father,

It is another Valentine’s Day, and I am still single.

What are you doing? Is there something that I’m not doing correctly? I want to be in a relationship and feel loved and cherished.

However, I know that you love and cherish me so much more than a relationship could. Help me be content in this season of life, but please send me a godly relationship someday that I can cherish.

In your name, Amen.

Valentine’s Day Prayers for Dating Couples

Dating is another unique season of life that can bring much joy, but its own set of struggles. These prayers are for dating couples that are in love, but still dating.

Thank you, Jesus, for allowing me to be with someone that I can celebrate this season with! Help us keep our eyes focused on you throughout our relationship, but especially on a day that promotes such a tilted view of love.

May we be wise in our decisions as we grow closer to each other but also closer to you. May we always keep you at the center of our relationship as we glorify you.

Dear Father God,

I am so grateful for this person that I am dating. He/she is everything that I hoped or prayed for. My heart is tender and sometimes I want to rush things. Help me take this relationship at a pace that will please you. May we honor and glorify you as we grow closer to each other.

Thank you for blessing me with this person. You give me so much when I deserve nothing. Amen.

Valentine’s Day Prayers for Marriage

We have finally got to the marriage portion of our prayers. Marriage is a reflection of God’s plan for his Church and just like the Church of Christ, marriage is beautiful but comes with many struggles, trials, and tribulations. These prayers can be used as a blessing over your spouse and to turn your heart toward correct feelings throughout this Valentine’s Day season.

Today is not an abnormal day. It is simply a day to show my husband/wife love. I pray that we can spend quality time together as we reflect on our relationship.

Protect us from letting life become so busy that we place our love on the back burner.

May we remember more of the things that make us love each other than the things that drive us nuts. Thank you for giving me the responsibility of loving my spouse.

May you give me strength to do it well. Amen.

I confess God that I have been frustrated with my spouse a lot lately. Everything they do annoys me. I have little love in my heart right now and need you to change my heart to be more like you. I want to do the right thing, but I simply don’t have the strength. Please remind me of my love for them. Humble me to make me more into whom you want me to be. Amen.

Happy Valentine’s Day Prayers

Is Valentine’s Day a happy occasion or a point of tension for you? Regardless, Valentine’s day is a reminder of not only our capacity to love but of our weakness in love. We love imperfectly, but our God loves us perfectly.

Throughout this season of love, turn to the perfector of your faith to learn from Him the true meaning of love.

A beautiful study on this is by Sally Clarkson the writer of the beloved “Life-Giving Home“. Her You are Loved Bible Study is an encouragement on what true love looks like from the Bible.

Happy Valentine’s Day! May God’s love be upon you.
