I don’t like it when I cannot sleep. I don’t imagine many people do. In those moments of restlessness, I find my mind wandering to places that it should not go. How do you end your day? I confess that often, I end my day just aiming my body toward the bed and hoping that it all turns out well. Exhaustion tends to follow mothers. We do too much, expect too much, and then suffer the consequences. Usually, those consequences are sleep.
Tossing, turning, wide awake. Sometimes an exhausted mother’s worst problem is the expectation to sleep. There are just too many things in life that could go wrong. Too many worries, anxieties, and fears. It’s too hard to let go at night.

Why should we pray at night? Because we have a direct line to our Father in Heaven who understands, loves, and forgives us.
And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

What Does the Bible Say About Prayers?
The Bible says plenty about prayers. In fact, we are told that we have no option but to pray!
praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

It’s powerful to wake up and start our days with prayers, but it is equally as powerful to end our day with prayers. They are our bookends to living in this world. You’ve had an entire day living in this beautiful world that God created. An entire day to think about his goodness, mercy, love, and grace. Also, an entire day living in a sinful world. It’s time to come back to him and thank and praise Him who knows you better than yourself.

He created it for His glory, not ours. However, He loves us dearly. He does want good things for us. As you lie awake or are getting ready for bed, use this prayer as an acknowledgment of all that He is and all that you are.
Dear Father, I plead tonight for your protection and guidance. I know this world is not our home, but sometimes I get wrapped up in all that it offers. Remind me of who you are. You are glorious, sovereign, good, and generous. I am weak, dust, sinful, and disgraced. Thank you for sending your son Jesus to die on the cross for someone such as me. May I not forget that sacrifice. Thank you for the cross. Amen.

Why do we have issues sleeping? Why do we have issues healing? It’s for the same reason. Sin. Please understand that I’m not saying that your sin is causing you issues sleeping. Goodness, that would be truly awful of me! However, I am saying that all our issues on this earth can be traced back to original sin.
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—

It sometimes can seem unjust and unfair that sin came into the world through one man, but we forget, sin is a choice that we make. However, sin does not automatically imply sickness or decay. Although that is the ultimate result of sin, and what Jesus will someday make right again, there are still plenty of bad things that happen in this world that we will never know the reason for.
Why do little kids get cancer? Why do bad things happen to good people?
Simply put, we are not sovereign. We are not God. There are reasons for difficult situations that we will never see the reasoning behind. We simply are called to trust that someday Jesus will make all things right. Do you have enough faith to do that?
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Father in heaven, I’m struggling today. Sickness and decay surround me. So many of my friends, family and loved ones are going through sufferings in their bodies that I wish would be healed. I know you are sovereign and Lord of the universe, you can do anything! Please God heal my loved ones, but also give us the grace to accept whatever outcome you provide us. Amen.
Sometimes simple gratitude is all it takes to reset our hearts and minds. Gratitude is a powerful antidote to a seriously broken world.
