Why Should we Pray at Night?
How do you end your day? I confess that often, I end my day just aiming my body toward the bed and hoping that it all turns out well. Exhaustion tends to follow mothers. We do too much, expect too much, and then suffer the consequences. Usually, those consequences are sleep.
Tossing, turning, wide awake. Sometimes an exhausted mother’s worst problem is the expectation to sleep. There are just too many things in life that could go wrong. Too many worries, anxieties, fears. It’s too hard to let go at night.
Why should we pray at night? Because we have a direct line to our Father in Heaven who understands, loves, and forgives us.
And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.1 John 5:15 ESV
What Does the Bible Say About Prayers?
The Bible says plenty about prayers. In fact, we are told that we have no option but to pray!
praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,Ephesians 6:18 ESV
It’s powerful to wake up and start our days with prayers, but it is equally as powerful to end our day with prayers. They are our bookends to living in this world. You’ve had an entire day living in this beautiful world that God created. An entire day to think on his goodness, mercy, love, and grace. Also, an entire day living in a sinful world. It’s time to come back to him and thank and praise Him who knows you better than yourself.
Powerful Night Prayers for the Exhausted Mother
Instead of counting sheep when you cannot sleep at night, maybe it’s time to spend some time in prayer. Even if your nights are not sleepless, maybe it’s time to start a new routine where your communication with God gets a little bump in priority.
These powerful night prayers can be printed, posted, and used as a guide as you establish your nighttime prayer routine.
Powerful Midnight Prayers
Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”Matthew 26:41
Do you ever find yourself up at random points of the night for no reasonable reason? Sometimes God is nudging us to pray. These are powerful moments of prayer that can bring us closer to our Savior as we seek his will.
Dear Lord, there must be a reason why I’m currently awake. I’m tired, yet I cannot sleep. Give me the heart to listen to what you have for me tonight. Bring people to mind to pray for as I seek your heart. Amen/
There are also moments at night where we just need to pray for sleep. To glorify and honor our God in heaven and ask for his guidance and help in getting the rest that we need. We can come to our gracious Lord with the big and little things in life. God has given our body the need for rest and sleep, he does not mind when we ask for things that we truly do need.
Father in heaven,
Father in heaven, here I lay awake wondering what you have for me tonight. I adore you and thank you for this life you have so graciously given me. Thank you for making my body to be capable of rest. Please allow me to fall asleep and be refreshed in the morning. Amen.
Powerful Night Prayers for Protection
You may have started your day with a nice cup of coffee, a good devotional, and a peaceful heart; but in the middle of the night that tranquil feeling is just not there anymore. In fact, the day may have brought warfare to loved ones or yourself. Perhaps you feel endangered and struggling to know that God truly does want to protect you.
Dear God, your servant today is listening. Be with me as I lay in this bed. Comfort me when thoughts intrude my mind. Be with my loved ones as they fight their unique battles. Strengthen me through this darkness. May I learn to glorify you in all circumstances. Keep me, safe tonight Lord. Amen.
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.Romans 12:12
Life was never promised to be easy. Christ said that we would have tribulation on this earth. This earth is a sinful place and truthfully, this earth is not about us, it’s about God. He created it for His glory, not ours. However, He loves us dearly. He does want good things for us. As you lie awake, or are getting ready for bed, use this prayer as an acknowledgement of all that He is and all that you are.
Dear Father, I plead tonight for your protection and guidance. I know this world is not our home, but sometimes I get wrapped up in all that it offers. Remind me of who you are. You are glorious, sovereign, good, and generous. I am weak, dust, sinful, and disgraced. Thank you for sending your son Jesus to die on the cross for someone such as me. May I not forget that sacrifice. Thank you for the cross. Amen.
Prayer for Sleep and Healing
Why do we have issues sleeping? Why do we have issues healing? It’s for the same reason. Sin.
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—Romans 5:12
It sometimes can seem unjust and unfair that sin came into the world through one man, but we forget, sin is a choice that we make. However, sin does not automatically imply sickness or decay. Although that is the ultimate result of sin, and what Jesus will someday make right again, there are still plenty of bad things that happen in this world that we will never know the reason for.
Why do little kids get cancer? Why do bad things happen to good people?
Simply put, we are not sovereign. We are not God. There are reasons for difficult situations that we will never see the reasoning behind. We simply are called to trust that someday Jesus will make all things right. Do you have enough faith to do that?
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.1 Peter 5:10
Father in heaven, I’m struggling today. Sickness and decay surround me. So many of my friends, family and loved ones are going through sufferings in their bodies that I wish would be healed. I know you are sovereign and Lord of the universe, you can do anything! Please God heal my loved ones, but also give us the grace to accept whatever outcome you provide us. Amen.
Dear Lord, thank you for the day and thank you for the night. Thank you for the energy to continue through the day, and the rest during the night to replenish. Guide me through my daily tasks and the troubles that I face in this world. Provide me with the rest to share your name with the world. Amen.
Powerful Night Prayers for Family
Powerful night prayers can extend to the family too. Often what is on the minds of exhausted mothers is their children and their welfare. Use these powerful night prayers to guide you as you seek God’s will for your little ones. He will not abandon his servants.
Forcefully pray for your children, their salvation, their safety and their development. God will hear your prayers as you lay down these children we love so dearly.
God, I don’t understand why my child will not turn from their wicked ways and rely on you. I know that your salvation is offered to all and that no one is so far gone that you will not forgive them. Hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. Touch the heart and mind of my child. Help them turn to you and live for your glory. Amen.
This prayer is for the mothers of young children. The days get long with little ones clinging to your side. Many emotions present themselves as you raise these impressionable children. These days are fleeting, they will not last forever. The sleepless nights will fade, the constant questions will subside, the messes will be replaced with new messes, and most likely you will miss those little faces staring up at you in complete trust.
Dear Lord, I’m so tired of raising little ones. I love them dearly, but they take so much out of me on a daily basis. I’m tired, frustrated, and sometimes angry. I know all of this is leading toward my sanctification and I’m so grateful for the patience that you offer my emotions. May I prove to be faithful in raising these little ones. Give me the rest I need to continue in the morning. Amen.
