Give it to God and go to sleep. Easier said than done! Moms are good at worrying, but the Bible says to cast our burdens on the Lord. Are we giving it to God? How do we let go? Especially at night when we start conjuring up all sorts of anxious thoughts. Here are some practical and insightful ways to do just that.

Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

How to Let Go and Let God

Letting go and letting God take care of you and your loved ones may seem like an impossible task. That’s because it is. Letting go is a daily and moment-by-moment surrender, and we need the grace of God and his Holy Spirit to truly let go.

Surrendering to God will need to become a lifestyle of continually seeking the God that rules the universe. You do not, he does. All of your anxieties and worries can be laid at the foot of the cross and surrendered to the only one that can truly help.

When fears and worries creep in at night we can think about good things, remember who is in control, seek God through prayer, remember the foundations of our faith, and then give to all to God in confidence.

5 Powerful Ways to Give it to God and Go to Sleep

Giving it to God and going to sleep sometimes can seem harder than done. Our fears, worries, and anxieties can be powerful forces that cause our hearts to stumble. Yet God cares for us, wants good things for us, and is willing to take our burdens. Lay them down at the cross. You will not regret turning those worries into a powerful prayer.

1. Think about Good Things

The way that you think says a lot about who you are. If you allow negative and anxious thoughts to cloud your mind then there will be little space for positive thinking. The idea of ‘give it to God and go to sleep,’ is possible when we are focusing our minds on the things that don’t lead to anxiety!

Constantly push all negative thoughts aside and only allow good to shine in. There is no need to think of things that may never happen. We as moms often let the ‘unknown’ become the ‘known’ in our minds. What if my son becomes a bully at school? What is we don’t make enough money to pay the mortgage next month? What if, what if, what if.

The what-ifs of life are not worth your energy because the God of the universe already knows all the what-ifs. Trust Him.

God is on your side, and he wants you to renew your mind daily. Right now, before you go to bed think of good and pure thoughts and tell Satan to get behind you.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Philippians 4:8 NKJV

2. Remember Who is in Control

Did you wake yourself up this morning? No, it must have been your phone alarm then. You nor your phone had anything to do with you waking this morning.

God woke you up and here you are about to go back to sleep. But your thoughts are alarming, and you don’t know if you will have a peaceful sleep.

Well, my friend, God is in control. All he asks of you is to cast your burdens before him. It’s really not as hard as you think it is.

Remember when your child stepped on your toe after giving you endless trouble that day and you couldn’t help but blurt out all your emotional pain and anxiety on them. They totally didn’t deserve it and you apologized but somehow you felt much better.

Yeah, that’s what you have to do with God. He wants you to tell him everything minus the yelling part. He didn’t just wake you up, he has sustained you and he will continue to sustain you.

God knows what will happen and he wants to bear the burden for you. Allow him to.

Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass,

When the Lord has not commanded it?

3. Seek God Through Prayer

If you’re going to allow God to be in control, then prayer is very important. This is the way that you communicate with God. He wants to hear from you. He desires fellowship with all of his children including you.

Prayer isn’t a one-way street, it’s a dialogue and a conversation. So, after you pour your burdens out to God and let him know what your experience is, listen.

Listen? Yes, listen to what God has to say. It may come in the form of a bible verse, a friend’s text message, a Facebook post, or it may be a small gentle whisper or nudge reminding you of one of God’s promises. Giving it to God is a very important part of prayer. Everything that you feel, or think should be spoken because God already knows you intimately.

And after he has spoken, talk to him again. He will never tire of hearing you. Using a prayer journal right before bed can be helpful too. Write your prayers and worries down and then go to sleep in full confidence that he heard your prayers.

Prayer is the easiest way to place your worry at the feet of the cross and rest in peace.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

4. Turn Your Worry into Faith

The opposite of worry is absolute belief and that’s what faith is. When you worry you don’t believe that anything good will ever happen and as such you constantly live in fear.

When my daughter was born, I didn’t want to leave her side. Although having to constantly be up and around her was taking its toll on me, I didn’t care. I wanted to be where she was, and I didn’t even want to leave the house.

What I came to realize is that I’m not the one in charge of her protection. Try as I might, God is the one who watches over her.

Through the many dangers and sufferings that this world allows how would I be able to protect her from it all? I realized that I was mortal and that God was immortal. She didn’t truly belong to me. God gave her to me to raise her, but she belonged to God. And he was the only one who would be able to protect and provide for her always.

I said a simple prayer and told the Lord, “She is yours”. She was turned over to her father because he can sustain her. By faith, I believe that whatever God allows he will make a way for us to weather or get through it. My worry and fear gave way to faith and yours can too by giving it to God.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:6

5. Give it all to God with Confidence

He shall NEVER permit the righteous to be forsaken. Where do you gather confidence? When you worry, all you can think about is what could go wrong but there is much that can right if you start giving it to God.

God is for you, and he doesn’t want you to worry or be afraid. Whatever happens, he allows it, and his reasons may not be justified to us here on earth. However, he knows what is best for us and so we should trust in him.

Don’t have faith or trust him and still harbor worry in your heart. Be confident because he has said that he will allow the righteous to be moved.

No one can touch you; God has said that no one will be able to pluck any of us out of his hands. Now all that’s left to do is to believe him.

Trust in his word, with confidence. Go to God with assurance because he will always be there for you.

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Philippians 1:6

Giving it to God in all Things

God is in control no matter our circumstances. He reigns supreme. Give it to God, for he will take care of you. Nighttime can easily be when our imagination runs wild with endless possibilities and fears. It’s time to release them. Rest in the assurance that your Father in heaven is in control.
