Moms have a hard job! But God knows us and can relate to every endeavor we face. Moms can look at the scriptures and see victory in pursuing godliness amidst the struggles of this world. Be encouraged by these Bible verses for moms!
Just this morning my middle child came marching out of his bedroom at 5:15 am, he had his little stuffed animal Easter bunnies, his water bottle, and a purposeful step, which much to my dismay echoed through the house. “Morning mama, hold me!” I scooped my little three-year-old into my arms and he whispered, “Mama, you are my bestest friend.” Although my work time had been interrupted, this was my next right thing. We as mothers have a hard job, but if we have been called to motherhood, then we shall be equipped for the task. God has given these little ones to you and you have all you need to parent them well.

What does God say about mothers?
In the book of Isaiah 66:13, the bible says:
“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”
Isaiah 66:13 NIV
Comfort is defined by the dictionary as a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint.
Sometimes we may feel tired, overwhelmed, or exhausted. In times like this, God is reminding us that we are not alone as he is always there to comfort us. He is a present help in times of need.
There is no formula in the Bible from God on how to be a good mom. There really aren’t even many Bible verses for moms that specifically address motherhood. However, there are plenty of verses that give us a general idea of what God expects of us as mothers. Take for example Proverbs 1:8-9.
Hear, my son, your father’s instruction,
Proverbs 1:8-9 ESV
and forsake not your mother’s teaching,
for they are a graceful garland for your head
and pendants for your neck.
Are you showing your children an attitude that would be a graceful garland? What about these verses in Proverbs? We certainly are not perfect mothers, but these Bible verses for moms can be an encouragement and blessing in directing us to be better and more Biblical moms.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Proverbs 31:28-31 ESV
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
Will your children someday call you blessed? As mothers, we are to be living examples of Christ to our children. We will not always succeed. In fact, we will fail a lot. God’s grace is enough as we prayerfully attempt to be a godly mother in an ungodly world.
In the Bible, motherhood is honored and revered. God describes mothers as nurturers, teachers, and pillars of strength. A mother’s love, often compared to God’s own love, provides comfort, guidance, and security. Proverbs 31 beautifully illustrates the role of an “excellent wife” and a wise woman whose children rise and call her blessed. The Bible acknowledges both the joys and challenges of motherhood, offering support through God’s promises.
God’s Word emphasizes the importance of a mother’s role in shaping her children, instructing them in the ways of God. Whether you are raising your children in the early years, walking alongside adult children, or navigating the journey of motherhood with grace, the Bible’s wisdom is a guide that never fades.

We all have a weakness; it is important to acknowledge that state and seek God for strength. Humble yourself before Christ, he will manifest his power in your home in the midst of your weaknesses. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Hebrews 12:11 ESV
Discipline your child when necessary, following the leading of the Holy Spirit. Study your child and employ a method that works, a discipline measure that works for child A might not work for child B. Prayerfully explore resources and be careful to know where to draw the line (Discipline is different from child abuse).
Disciplining and raising children requires patience and persistence. Though the process may be difficult, it brings forth the fruit of the Spirit in both mother and child, leading to righteousness.
Colossians 4:6
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Colossians 4:6 NIV
When conversing with your children, always remember this Scripture. That way only edifying speech will come out of your mouth. I have been reminded of this verse time and time again when my children become repeating parrots of a phrase or statement that I would not want them to say, but I realize that they learned it from me! These moments of learning self-control are simply a part of our motherhood journey.
In the midst of the chaos that can arise in motherhood, this verse reminds us to speak with grace and kindness. Whether we’re talking to our children, other moms, or family friends, our words carry power and should reflect the love of God.
James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17 NIV
This is another reminder that every child is a good and perfect gift from God. Focus on your child’s strength. Avoid comparing your children’s abilities, every child is unique. Our children, the fruit of the womb, are perfect gifts from God. This verse encourages us to cherish the blessings God has given us and reminds us of His unchanging love.
Psalm 127:1
Unless the Lord builds the house,
Psalms 127:1
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
Mothers this is another reminder that only God can help in building our children. Seek God, Submit to him. I love that this verse points us to the fact that when we submit to God, He will build our home. In fact, that verse is what the entire “Cultivating a Healing Home” devotional is based on. Galatians 5:22-23 ESV
Let the fruits of the spirit be evident in our lives in relating with our children! That way we are setting good examples. I admit that I don’t always live out the fruits of the spirit in the way that I want to. Love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, and self-control do not come easy to me. I always am encouraged by Mark 9:24, where the man cries out to Jesus, “Help my unbelief.” I love the example that this sets us to cry out to Jesus amidst our weakness.
The fruit of the Spirit is a beautiful picture of what motherhood can look like when we allow the Holy Spirit to guide our actions. These qualities are the best things we can model for our children.

Isaiah 49:15
Can a woman forget her nursing child,
Isaiah 49:15 ESV
that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you.
A mother’s love is powerful, but how much more powerful is the love of God? As you walk through your mothering journey, remember that what you feel for your children is only a fraction of the love that God feels for his children.
This verse is a beautiful reminder of God’s unconditional love for us. Just as a mother’s love for her child is deep and constant, so is God’s love for each of us. He never forgets us.
3 John 1:4
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
3 John 1:4 ESV
There are very things more lovely on this earth than to know your child is walking in the truth of the scripture. Although this ‘joy’ the scripture passage is referencing seems to be directed at the church body instead of a biological child, I think it’s safe to say that the same truth can be applied.
As moms, we long for our children to grow in faith. There is no greater joy than to see them walking with the Lord and growing in their relationship with Him.
