When you start your day with Jesus you will find that your entire outlook on your morning changes. Allowing the Holy Spirit to penetrate our hearts with the gospel, reading the Bible, and bowing our knees in prayer will not only set on minds on the right things, but it will also nourish our souls as we are reminded of God’s love for us. It helps determine how you will respond to whatever comes at you during the day. You can choose to linger in bed, hitting the snooze and dreading the alarm, or you can start your day with Jesus.
The morning is prime time for spending time with God, reading your Bible, praying for the day ahead, or meditating. Call it spiritual fueling up for your day with some coffee (or tea) and Jesus. I hear a lot of people tell me that they are just not a morning person. You don’t have to be! If you are not a morning person, just modify these routines to better suit your mental status. I still believe that if you are a believer, there is great power in some way, shape, or form to start your days off by dedicating them to Jesus.
We all need mornings with Jesus. There is something so special about spending time with God in the quiet hours before the hustle and bustle begins. It is there that we find the strength to face the day ahead. Your mindset will be renewed, your soul filled, and your burdens released. Never underestimate the goodness and joy that will come from spending your morning with Jesus.
How might you get your soul into a state that can withstand whatever life throws at you? How might you nourish your soul to fulfill your purpose for the day? Are your mornings with Jesus important to you?

The Word of God is food for the soul. Consider what you read. Meditate on it. Let it wash over you. Ponder it and apply it to your heart. You will be nourished and set up for the day ahead. By spending your mornings with Jesus, you are obtaining food for the inner soul and being nourished to grow more into the image of Christ.
What Does the Bible Say?
God’s Word is one of the ways He speaks to us. So, make sure you are being available to spend time with Him and tune into His voice. Look for ways that He is working in and through you throughout the day. Through His Word, we will see Him in all His radiant glory, hear from his wisdom, and experience His ability to satisfy our souls. I hope these Bible verses encourage you as you start a new day.
O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
Psalm 5:3 ESV
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love,
Psalm 143:8
for in you I trust.
Make me know the way I should go,
for to you I lift up my soul.
For his anger is but for a moment,
Psalm 30:5
and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
to declare Your faithful love in the morning and Your faithfulness at night.
Psalm 92:2
Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!
Lamentations 3:22-23
Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil.
Ephesians 6:11
Starting Your Day with Jesus
Mornings are always better when you start your day with Jesus. Add Bible reading and prayer to your morning routine and I personally believe you will reap amazing benefits.
Start by thanking Him for what He has done for you and ask Him how you can be a blessing to others. Make sure that He is the focus of your morning so that He will be on your mind all day. God has created a new day and He wants you to find joy in it. No matter the circumstance we know that God is working for our good and His glory.
Our greatest calling as believers in Jesus Christ is to pursue Jesus and bring glory to God. Bringing glory to someone besides ourselves is in direct conflict with the world’s determination to pursue the best version of ourselves. Yet, God calls us to bring glory to him through every part of our lives, including motherhood.

1. Start your Day with Jesus in Prayer
Jesus often sought alone time with God in the early morning. Follow Jesus’ example by starting your mornings with Jesus. He rose early to pray and speak with the Father.
And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.
Mark 1:35
Jesus intentionally chose to spend time alone with God. Just as Jesus did, God wants to hear from us first thing in the morning too.
Begin each day by placing God first in your heart. When you put first things first and spend time with God your heart will be comforted, encouraged, confronted (with love and truth), and instructed. Let us soak in God’s Word, His truth, then submit our day to following His will and guidance.
When you do, you will be brought into intimate communion with God – knowing and enjoying Him in the hurried and unhurried moments. You will start your day with Jesus and be refreshed. Mornings with Jesus should have scripture and prayer!
So, make the most of your morning by seeking your soul’s happiness in God. Start your day with Jesus. You will be less stressed, more energized to love others, and more devoted to your daily walk with Jesus.
2. Start your Day with Gratitude
Studies on gratitude continue to reveal that thanksgiving has the power to change our trajectory. Gratitude is a powerful antidote to a world filled with worries. Who should our gratitude be directed at? Our creator. He is the one that deserves praise and gratitude for the good things in our life. The Bible even tells us in Philippians 4:6-7 that the perfect peace of God will guard our hearts when we are grateful.
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 ESV
Although the Bible is filled with verses on gratitude, the Psalms seem to be the book of the Bible that is brimming over with the most. Check out these 10 powerful verses on gratitude to add direction to your gratitude time in the morning.
Starting our days with grateful hearts begins our mindset with feelings of contentedness instead of feelings of discontent with what God has given.
If you are going through a challenging season, one tip that I like to keep in mind is to keep soft worship music on in the mornings. I often tell people that worship music teaches theology. I recommend music like Keith and Kristy Ghetty, who teach powerful and right theology in their music.
3. Rest in Stillness
Before you start your day, practice being still. Don’t rush out of bed to check your emails. This means waking up a little earlier to be in the presence of God with quiet time. Take a moment to be reminded of who He is in your life. He is currently watching over you and protecting you from harm. Before you begin the day,
Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
Psalm 46:10
God tells us to rest in Him and let go of our concerns before the day even starts. When we stop moving and practice being still, we can recognize the truth of God – that He is the one who is in control. When we spend time with Him first thing in the morning, He reminds us of who He is and what He can do. He knows how to calm our anxious thoughts, ease our hearts, and guide our lives according to His will. When the worries of the day come in full force, we can lift them up to God and trust in Him. Be still, believe, and be alert.
One-Year Bible Reading Plan!
Want to dive deeper into your faith this year? Increase your relationship with Jesus? Understand the Bible more? Then the one-year Bible reading plan is for you! We will work our way chronologically through the Bible starting in January and finishing in December.
Don’t worry! You don’t have to start in January, you can start at any point of the year!
4. Start your Day with the Bible
Start your day with Jesus by opening your Bible and digging into the Word of God. If you call yourself a follower of God, how can you not read His word?
We need the cleansing power of God’s healing Word every day of our lives to combat the dirty power of this diseased world.
Currently, my favorite way to read my Bible is to use a coloring Bible. This is the one I have, and it has truly revolutionized the way that I read the Bible. For years I was stuck in a routine that was just a ‘checklist’ of stuff to do. Switching up the Bible I read, was a small step that helped me truly reflect on the Bible verse instead of just reading a chapter and checking it off my list.
If you enjoy ‘pretty’ Bibles, there are so many to choose from that can add a little bit of beauty to your morning as your start your day with Jesus.
5. Start your Day with Jesus in Prayer
Daily morning prayers are a wonderful way to focus your time and attention on seeking God’s plan for the day ahead. It is so good to know that He loves and cares for you and hears your prayers. Starting your day off with a powerful morning prayer is a wonderful way to start your day off right.
“Dear Lord, let me hear you this morning and lead me on with patience, love, grace, and joy with whatever is thrown my way. Let me first hear of your steadfast love and steady my thoughts on this anchor of hope. Allow me to rest firmly in the gospel of your grace. God, you tell us what really is – discerning truth from the lies of the world. You are the one in whom I believe. In your truth lead me in your way. I lift up my eyes to you all day long. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
Mornings with Jesus are Powerful
One of the worst things we can do for our days is to start it off with morning news, social media, or dwelling on what we are discontent with. Instead, a better way is to start a daily habit of starting your days with Jesus.
Building up a habit of spending time with God first thing in the morning is a worthwhile practice that benefits us our entire lives. Do you start your day with Jesus? How do you like to start your day? Do you dedicate it to God? I encourage you to make spending time with Jesus in the mornings a part of your daily routine. You will not regret it.

Love this encouragement! The word of God helps me focus my heart, mind, and attitude for the day.
