inspirational morning Bible verses with a cup of coffee.

By nature, I am a morning person. As I type this it is 4 am and I’ve been up since a little before 3 am. There was no alarm clock, no moaning or groaning. I just woke up, felt awake and rejuvenated, heard the coffee pot timer go off, and decided to start my day a little bit early. It took no extra work or consequences.

So truthfully, it’s easy for me to start my day with God. Not everyone is the same way. Even someone who says they are a morning person is usually not up at 4 a.m.

Regardless of whether you are a morning person or not, starting your day off with morning Bible verses is one of the most important things you can do for your day. What does that look like though? We need the Word of God to start our day. Inspirational morning Bible verses help to direct and turn our affections to Jesus for the rest of the day. What I am not saying here, is that you must start your day with an hour of prayer and morning scripture. I’m not even saying you need to spend 10 minutes with your nose in the Bible.

Meeting God with morning scriptures can be as simple as directing your thoughts, affections, and emotions toward him. It’s as simple as acknowledging Him as Lord of your life, giving thanks, and committing your day and decisions to the Glory of God alone. Our own understanding pales in comparison to the vast knowledge of our Heavenly Father, starting the day off with God and knowing the Lord’s great love for you, is the right path every time.

For some that may be a quick prayer, for others, it may be sitting down with a cup of coffee and digging into scripture for an extended period of time.

Beginning your day with Jesus means that you are inviting him into your upcoming day. All the moments, tensions, and joys have already been given to him. Tackling your day on your own is usually an invitation to exhaustion and failure. Why not invite the God of the universe to help, protect, and guide you throughout your day?

Submit to him.

Psalm 5:3

O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;
    in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.

Psalm 5:3 ESV

Another day has started. Maybe the previous day was a truly awful day. Maybe it was a great day. Regardless, today is a new day to hear the voice of God. What better way is there than to lay down a sacrifice of your time and watch and listen for the voice of God?

Jeremiah 29:13

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13

Are you seeking God with your whole heart in the mornings? Chances are, there are a dozen things vying for your attention the moment your feet hit the floor. From children to phones, emails, and beyond, we most likely have a lot that is competing for our time, talents, and attention. Don’t let God be one of them. Make him the first priority in the morning.

1 Peter 5:7

casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7

Are you waking up in the morning filled with anxiety? I can relate. It certainly is not something that I am proud of and it’s something that I’m working through, but anxiety has become a part of the battles I face. One thing that helps me in the mornings is the reminder from 1 Peter 5:7 that my God cares for me and that I can literally cast my worries and anxieties on him.

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

First thing in the morning you should be seeking the kingdom of God. Remember that when we set our day up for success, we often find it! It’s humbling to admit that as my day goes on the Fruit of the Spirit becomes less evident in my life. As I read Matthew 6:33, I’m thinking ‘If only I could remember to consistently seek the kingdom of God as my day becomes more stressful and I become more tired.’ The Lord’s mercies are new every morning. If you struggle as the day goes on to reflect Christ in everything you do, know that you are not alone. Start praying about your behavior or anger and look to God’s new mercies.

Isaiah 33:2

O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you.

    Be our arm every morning,

    our salvation in the time of trouble.

Isaiah 33:2

We have a very gracious God who is patient with us. Isn’t that good news?! When our mornings feel like they are full of trouble and stress, remember that he is our salvation in times of trouble, as this verse declares. We can cry out to him and pray, O God, be gracious to me, be the salvation of my every morning and when there seem like constant issues in life. Don’t forget to include the power of morning prayer with your Bible reading!

This verse also reminds me of another good one in Psalms.

Hear my prayer, O Jehovah, And let my cry come unto thee. Hide not thy face from me in the day of my distress: Incline thine ear unto me; In the day when I call answer me speedily.

Psalms 102:1-2 ASV

Psalm 88:9

Every morning we can reset and find refreshment and hope simply because it is a new day. We don’t know what God has planned, but we do know that whatever God has planned has been sovereignly planned. We can find hope and peace in that as we spend our mornings in prayer and Bible reading. The strength of my heart will never be enough on its own. I need the strength that comes from calling out to Jesus.

my eye grows dim through sorrow.

Every day I call upon you, O Lord;

    I spread out my hands to you.

Psalm 88:9

Isaiah 26:9

It is a good day when our minds and hearts long for our savior so much that it’s the first thing we think of when we get up.

My soul yearns for you in the night;

    my spirit within me earnestly seeks you.

For when your judgments are in the earth,

    the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

Isaiah 26:9

There have been many times since I became a mom that I would get up in the morning to a crying baby, pick him out of the crib, and his tiny body would just melt against mine. The sheer love I would feel was indescribable. I also felt something that I can only describe as missing my baby. I felt a longing for the time I lost during the night, and in the gentle morning sunlight I would whisper to my child, “I missed you”. When I read a passage like Isaiah 26:9, that is the image that I have. It says “my soul yearns for you in the night.” Do I truly yearn for my savior as I sleep? Do I miss the fellowship I have with him when I awake and communicate with him? I’m sad to say that too often, I do not.

Psalm 119:147

I rise before dawn and cry for help;

    I hope in your words.

Psalm 119:147

Have you ever wondered how the Proverbs 31 lady did it? Always rising before dawn and cranking out so much in one day. I like to think that she is an illusion, but I’m not as convinced anymore that her lifestyle is not attainable. I like to think (with no scriptural evidence) that when she rose in the morning, she cried for help like this Pslams claims. Perhaps God did sustain her as she lived in his will for her life. Our God is our God of hope and he certainly can sustain us through hard or difficult circumstances.

inspirational morning bible verses Psalms 119

Psalm 88:13

But I, O Lord, cry to you;

    in the morning my prayer comes before you.

Psalm 88:13

I love this simple verse because it is an acute reminder that in the morning we shouldn’t just be reading our Bible, we should also be communicating with our God, Lord, and Savior.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the faint,

    and to him who has no might he increases strength.

Isaiah 40:29

Anxiety is a real thing we face in this world. Sometimes it reaches out and surrounds our hearts and minds with its all-consuming grip. We need God’s power in our lives when this happens. His word is filled with verses for peace that can fill our anxious hearts with his peace as we combat the spirit of fear.

Lamentations 3:22-23

This is one of the most popular morning Bible verses out there. In a poetic nature, it reminds us that yesterday’s sorrows, troubles, sins, and worries, are behind us and we can look forward to a new day’s mercies. Remember to worship your Lord and Savior because he is your sustainer. Great is your faithfulness!

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;

    his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

    great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

If I had to pick a ‘life verse’ this would probably be the one. I think about these verses almost daily as I am reminded to pray, give thanksgiving to God, and accept and feel God’s peace. Anxiety is tough and this verse reminds me of God’s cleansing power even in a struggle with anxiety.

2 Timothy 1:7

Are you in-christ? Then you are a woman of self-control and love! Isn’t that good news? Granted, we still struggle with sin and living up to what we want instead of what we actually are, but that reminder can go a long way in reminding us to pursue the Fruits of the Spirit in our everyday homes.

 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

2 Timothy 1:7

Philippians 4:19

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

We are blessed that we have never truly experienced what hunger is like. However, we have experienced the dread of knowing that we probably would need to put our groceries on a credit card for that week, and it’s truly a humbling and awful feeling. However, when those weeks come, I am reminded of the Philippians passage that reminds us that despite the circumstances of life, God will supply our needs.

morning bible verses Philippians 4

Matthew 6:33

This is another reminder to seek first every day the right things. Do the next right thing and let everything else fall into place. Starting your morning with Jesus is a great way to set your day up for success.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

John 10:10

 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

John 10:10

2 Corinthians 5:17

He has allowed you another morning! He has blessed you with the ability to read these morning Bible verses! He is gracious and loving toward you! He has blessed you mightily! What else is there to do but give praise and thanksgiving to our Lord and Saviour?!

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Psalm 30:5

For his anger is but for a moment,
    and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
    but joy comes with the morning.

Psalm 30:5

What good news that God’s anger is but for a moment! When we mess up, it is great news that joy can come the next morning. That does not mean that we continue sinning and doing what we know is wrong, but we can have comfort when we mess up that God is faithful to forgive.

Psalm 143:8

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
    for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
    for to you I entrust my life.

Psalm 143:8 NIV

These final verses are themed around the idea of praise and thanksgiving. Our God is a gracious God and he deserves all our praise and glory. When your feet hit the floor and you are thinking about these morning Bible verses, may they cause in you a desire to praise God! I love that this verse reminds us to trust in our God. As your soul waits for answers to your prayers, remember to trust.

Morning bible verses. Psalm 143:8

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the Lord has made;

    let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24

God has made this day! It’s his day, and we have the honor to be in it. Have you ever thought of it that way? He sustains everything and in a breath, he could take it away. When you are in a dark place, rejoice and praise him for what he has given you! Think of these verses that we are going through as morning blessings. They are a way to start your day off right and bless yourself with the Word of God.

Psalm 90:14

May we be glad all our days! We end with Psalms 90 as a reminder of God’s truly steadfast love for us. His love never changes, nor does any other of his attributes. He is a good God, and he deserves our praise and worship.

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,

    that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
